Best socks

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Love these! Great thickness for keeping feet warm without making them feel bogged down. The cuff height is also perfect on these, great for boots and sneakers.

Voted yes by the active mountain man!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

What outdoorsy dude wouldn't be stoked to get these socks? Bought a few pairs as a birthday present, and he loves them. They keep his feet at a comfortable moisture level through all his hiking and biking and overall exploring. This dude says "Thumbs up, brah!"

I think I'm over SmartWool

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought 3 pair of these socks about six months ago, and all three have started coming unstitched around the ankle cuff with only moderate use. I love merino wool socks, and have owned many pairs of SmartWools, which I've been very happy with, but it seems like their quality control has declined over the years to the point where I probably won't be purchasing again.

There's other merino socks out there that I've had much better success with (Darn Tough) that will be getting my business from now on.

The perfect Sock

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love this length sock, it is perfect for most applications. I tested these on some hiking and trail running with excellent results. they are very comfortable and moisture wicking and kept my feet dry and pain free. Excellent color choices, I will buy again in the future.

Made me want a pair of my own!

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these socks for my brother in law as a Christmas present and according to my sister he is very pleased! Very good quality and comfort were noted as the reasons that the socks were well liked. My bro in law is a businessman in the city so he wears them with dress shoes and says they are the perfect weight while still being cozy and comfortable! Lastly, he wears a size 10.5 and the large fit him perfectly!

Comfy Socks Rock!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I have really enjoyed wearing the Smartwool outdoor light sock, it is true to its namesake and has a very light feel that absorbs moisture and keeps your feet dry thanks to the Merino wool blend. The Fabric is articulated, so it stretches comfortably over the foot to provide support, and since the Merino wool is naturally anti microbial you can go for longer hikes without having to worry about holding your breath on the car ride home, highly recommended

Amazing socks for hiking, travel or everyday use. Fast drying, warm/cool depending on the weather. They keep my feet dry and can be worn multiple days without washing before they get smelly or crusty...I wear size 13 shoes and the large fit great.

Super Comfy, seem to wear quickly

I keep buying these because they are super comfortable and always my first choice out of the top drawer. Biking, hiking and golfing are the primary uses, but frankly I wear them a lot everyday. Given the heavy use, I guess there is no surprise that I wear through them what seems, pretty quickly, mainly in the toes and heel. Despite that, I keep buying them, which says something!

I never thought socks could be this good

These socks are super comfortable, by far my favorite socks. They?re good for any season, warm in the winter, cool and breathable in the summertime. Best fitting hands down, you can?t go wrong with these.

Great all around sock

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use them pretty much everyday in the summer. They are sturdy well made socks. 1 pair a weekend while backpacking or camping and they still don't smell that bad. Make sure you use the sizing guide.

Too much money to justify.

For $16.90 I just can't recommend these. Plenty of companies make an economical sock for running that performs just as well as these if not better. I got a pair as a gift and thought whats the hype. I tried them out and I can't say that it enhanced my experience any. I much prefer my nike drifit running socks which keep my feet dry and blister free. Bottom line, I would spend $16 on a single pair of hikers, but not on a running sock.

Responded on

There is no better sock on earth than Smartwool! They're well worth the money. I own socks across the board, for biking, hiking, and running, from all, or most, of the major manufacturers including Smartwool, Darn Tough, Injinji, Wigwam, Icebreaker, Sock Guy, Thorlo, Feetures, and Balega. While many of the other brands come close, NOBODY beats the fit, feel, and quality (aka "overall package") of Smartwool...
