Awesome socks for hiking. They allow your feet to breath while providing the perfect amount of cushioning. They form really well to your feet so there's not a lot of movement rubbing against your skin.

I got my first pair of these 2 days ago and wore them yesterday all day at work. My first impression when putting them on was "these are super tight", but the padding feels amazing. They hug your feet so well that the material won't slip around and irritate your skin and the padding makes wearing dress shoes all day bearable. Definitely recommend these socks!

I love smartwool and these are not different. the only real problem is that i feel it takes a bit longer to dry than some of their more expensive socks.

I picked up a pair of these for my boyfriend, as I have always been a solid believer in Smartwool socks. The Phd's are no different- versatile, comfortable, and keeping your feet happy all day long. Highly addictive, you probably won't be able to stop at one pair- would definitely recommend these!

Go-to summer socks. Tall enough for my boots, but classy enough to sport with pumped up kicks. Lightweight, breatheable, and highly addictive.

You'll want more than one pair.

Didn't have any socks to go with my boots for the winter and I am very pleased with this product. Keeps my feet warm while out in the snow and feels great. Would definitely recommend and I plan on buying more before the end of the cool season.

People freak about spending $20 on a pair of socks because they don't know how good good can be. I have light, medium, and heavy versions of PhD's and LOVE THEM!
I wear the lights with dress shoes for work, mediums and heavy's for hiking, working outdoors, fishing and hunting. They ROCK and I'll never go back to regular socks. Thanks Smart Wool for making my life better!

I hiked 18 miles (in Chicago) as a trial for a planned hiking trip in New Zealand (Milford Trek) which spans 33 miles over 5 days. I felt very comfortable with these socks; you will want a sock liner to use with these type of wool socks, planning to use these with North Face Dhaulagiri II GTX boots which I simply love and wish they were still on the market! I will use the shorter cosins of these type of smartwool socks with Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX shoes. I was worried about cushion and bought both medium and light, I now wish I had stuck with light because the medium are nice and warm!

Favorite socks. I love good gear, and am usually one that is willing to pay for a good product. I've thought for a while now that Smartwools were a little over priced for how long they lasted. They've always been great socks, but the have worn out rather quickly. These new PhDs are comfy and have lasted. I'm a fan. The toe and heel fit is great. i've learned that by not buying a pair that is super tight will also add to durability. I am in between a M and L and have recently worn the L and they are a little bulkier, but hold up better.

I wore these socks during my trip out west and they were extremely comfortable, never too hot and my feet were absolutely dry.
