Lasts long and works well
Great in my wildland boots. Gotta have wool, and they gotta be well cushioned. These fit the bill perfectly.

Probably not
Worn once and the shaft of the sock is starting to fuzz out. What's up with that?

PHD Outdoor Heavy Over-The-Calf Socks
Worn while on the to and during and from my work. I walk to and from work, five days a week. The footbed of the sock is comfortable. The wool content of the construction of the sock is not enoughj, so I have to wear three pairs of socks in 18 degree winter weather. The elasticity of the sock provides adequate full calf support.

Perfection
I have been wearing Smartwool's PhD OTC socks for years. I have neuropathy in my lower legs and these are the only socks that keep them warm. I make sure the wool content is at least 70%. Anything lower than that is not warm enough. If I could 5 more stars I would. Well worth the money. They last for years.

Doesn't get better than this
These socks are the best for long haul cold weather backcountry trips. Over the calf gives you a little extra warmth and compression on long hauls, while the heavy foot bed gives you significant warmth and cushioning. There simply is not a better hiking sock out there for cold weather hiking than the PHD heavy sock.

Good sox. Use them to keep my feet warm when bicycling on iffy days.
