You can focus on what you're doing and not on what you're wearing when you scale the ice face wearing the SmartWool Men's Midweight Hoody. Consider this top a zip-neck with a balaclava attached; its clean-fitting, three-piece hood stays put when you pull it on and layers easily under a helmet so you get all the warmth you need with out any distractions.

  • Midweight merino wool offers excellent warmth, breathability, and natural odor-fighting capabilities
  • Engineered thumbholes offer extra warmth and a no-gap fit under gloves
  • Shoulder panels eliminate top seams for comfort wearing a pack

Bottom Line: Does its job and stays out of the way.

Nice Hoody

This is a nice little hoody. I have more merino than I should in several different brands, and this holds up well. The only thing giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it pils -slightly- more than most of my other merino goods.

I've got my opinion you've got yours

I do not ever dry anything with Merino Wool with heat! This comes extra big stating it will shrink. I really wanted a light-midweight hoodie but I found this not to be very warm when it was cold and too warm when it wasn't. To me it seemed like it had a really tight temp. range which made it not very useful, I'd think 40-50 degrees & it would be okay then. I expected more of this although Patagonia has a similar one made with polyester for extra durability & moisture wicking and I might check it out. I'm finding clothes with multiple materials and vent systems to be better than those of simplicity.

Excellent

This is a solid Midweight layer. Its surprisingly warm for its low bulk and is perfect for high altitude summer backpacking trips or any other pursuit where you don't want to stink. The hood is great for cooler nights as well.

A versatile garment

This hoody is great! With a long front zipper, it can be ventilated easily. With the hood up, it's just enough to keep you warm when you stop and drop your pack. The thumb-holes can help on a chilly day.

Pack straps don't slip on the waffled shoulder patches.

Great piece of gear!
