NTS Midweight Crew Top - Women's

Soft merino feels great against the skin, insulates brilliantly in cold weather, and naturally fights odors. So what better fiber for a base layer top? The SmartWool Women’s NTS Midweight Crew Long Underwear Top slips under your snowsports layers to keep you far warmer than polyester does, and you can wear it alone for cool-weather hikes and runs.

Bottom Line: Smartly sheepish.

This top rocks!

Sleeves are comfortably long, same with torso length. It is also nicely fitted - very flattering on a slim torso.

I am 5'5", 125#s, average bust (B), small waste, wide hips. The small fits perfect!

I like the midweight over the microweight for colder days. Microweight is great for warmer, Spring days, or cooler, Summer nights (in Michigan). Midweight works perfect for a base/mid layer.

I would wear this every day, if it would automatically wash itself.

Great All Around Shirt

By:

I originally got this shirt as a base-layer for snowboarding and haven't had the chance to try it out on the mountain yet, but so far so good for running outside when it's a bit cooler or just wearing it around town. Definitely keeps me warm and not itchy at all! I'm usually between a small and a medium, went with the medium and it fits snug but as I expected for a base-layer type shirt.

Baselayer or just a regular shirt

By:

I have two of these shirts and I wear them all the time. I wear them as baselayers for skiing and cold weather sports, but I also wear them with jeans and a scarf because they look good on their own. I've even worn them to work. I have several merino items from other companies like Ibex and Icebreaker, and Smartwool feels the best on my skin. Not itchy at all. I have an older version of this baselayer and the length of THIS version is much longer and hits you at the hips rather than the waist. Much better for tucking into your pants to keep out the drafts.

Best $75 I've ever spent on clothing

I love my shirt so much that I ordered the pants too! I ski and run all winter long and this shirt stays dry so I don't get cold.

The real question is, when do the Smartwool Sports bras come out?

Ibex makes several merino bras too. I have one for cold-weather sports like climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, and skiing because regular sports bras get cold and clammy and just hold the sweat against my chest. Merino bras still get wet, but retain their insulating properties and are not cold against your skin. I agree that it's not the most supportive bra in the world, but the only thing I WON'T do in that bra is run.

The problem with sport bras and wool, is that the wool can't give enough suport for higt impact. But it's perfect for skiing, hiking and climbing. I/O, Devold and Aclima all makes wool bras.

Warm, doesn't retain odor, look great

I've worn this mostly for commuting by bike. This is a baselayer and is supposed to fit snug. I'm 5'6" 135 lbs, and the small fits great. It keeps me warm with just a wind shell, until about 25 deg F (if my blood is pumping) - below that I need extra insulation. When I work up a sweat, I don't feel clammy and wet. Merino truly prevents b.o. from fermenting. I can wear this four times before it starts to smell. I love that it comes down to my hips. Looks good enough to wear around town, especially with a scarf (the microweight version is see-thru, however). The purple color is a deep purple - not gaudy or a 'going-to-the-gym' color at all. Allows for unrestricted arm movement.

does the job- its warm!

I'de say the top runs small. The sleeves were a bit short and I would prefer the material to be a little more stretchy and looser just a tad. I ordered the purple which is great rich color. Its very warm so it does fulfill the purpose.

Highly Recommend

Love this thing! It is form fitting, as an under layer should be, so if you want it as more of a shirt to wear by itself, then get a larger size. Not itchy, very soft and lightweight and warm. Washed it on "delicate" cold/cold and hung it to dry. Came out perfectly! Own the purple one too and the knee length black under layer pants -- both really comfortable and lightweight but warm.
