    Great baselayer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

I bought this for my mother because I love mine so much (I bought mine last year and wore many times). It's perfect on its own when the weather is starting to chill but not too thick to wear underneath additional layers.

    Short all over

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: Small

I wanted to like this shirt, though, it was just too short all over. I liked the formfitting shape which is nice for layering without wrinkles and bulk, which is why I decided to return it rather than size up.

    Amazing

I love this top so much I am buying it in multiple colors. It is super versatile, I use it for horseback riding but I can see it being the perfect top for any outdoor activity in the fall/winter. Warm, with good stretch and very soft. Winner!

      Perfect

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL

I have been in search of the perfect foundation garment for x-c skiing and snowshoeing, and this is it! I have worn it from 5-34 degrees, and only change my outer garment depending on the temperature and wind. Not itchy at all and a great color.

      Fantastic Baselayer

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small

True to size fit. Sleeves are nice and long so they don't ride up your forearm. This is my go-to base layer but I also wear it around. The fabric isn't scratchy at all and is not at all transparent. Highly recommend as a base.

      My 4th

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

Over the past 4 years I have acquired 4 of these and they continue to wear very well. Durable, breathable, won't stink, won't pill. I am 120 lb. And wear the size M. I can wear it both over and under other layers. It is cut in a flattering way, without being clingy or overly snug.

Midweight Crew is a great baselayer

This crew is really great baselayer for skiing, hiking, biking, camping, or really any purpose. The wool is very soft, not scratchy at all and it is warmer than expected (in a good way) for being a midweight layer. It fits and looks really nice on, so much so, that you might find yourself wearing it around town on a cold rainy day. It is tight enough that you can layer easily on top of it, but not skin tight. I am a little over 5'9'' and little over 140 pounds and the medium fits me perfectly! I love this layer.

Midweight Crew is a great baselayer

      Another great product by SmartWool

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

This is a must have for winter sports. I compared a lot of different mid layer brands and tops and this was easily my favorite. It's not itchy like many wool-based layers and it keeps me warm and dry all day long. I can't wait to get another one.

      Smart buy!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I walk two Siberians everyday. I put the Smart Wool top and bottom on under cotton jersey lined wind pants, a turtle neck and a down coat. I'm good to go even if the temperature says it feels like -10 outside. They feel great, perfect fit, very comfortable and they wash easily too. I love these. Wish I had ordered a second pair.

      Smartwool Midweight Crew

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

In the past, I usually bought synthetic materials, mainly because they are easier to find and a lot cheaper but I finally decided to try wool baselayers and I am so glad I did! Synthetic baselayers always leave me feeling clammy and cold, and they rarely dry as fast as you want them to, when I'm working hard to keep a pace it doesn't bother me but when on breaks or I've reached my destination, my body temp plummets and I get cold, fast. That doesn't happen with wool, it really does help regulate body temp and keeps you warm even when your drenched in sweat, and its very soft and comfy and not itchy at all. I wear a size medium and its perfect fit, although I have noticed it shrinks just a tiny bit the first time you wash it, when I do wash it, I always let it air dry. I highly recommend this product, its worth the money.

      Great product!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I love this top! Fit is true to size and top keeps you super warm. Another plus is top washes well and holds up to frequent use without fading or losing its shape. I purchased the Berry color and it is beautiful! I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a warm base layer for hiking, biking, running or simply wearing around town on cold days. I love this top and would love to have it in other colors.

      Awesome top

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I use this regularly for a base layer, or just alone with a vest for winter runs. Breathes well and keeps me warm. Wish it was about an inch longer, but just keep it tucked in to stay secure.

      Wonder Wool!!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

So I bought this baselayer with the full intention of it being just a baselayer.... but then suddenly I started wearing it as a shirt! This functions as both, and it is so warm. It wicks away moisture and I don't have to wash it as often as some of my other baselayers. It just so happens this has become my favorite baselayer and in my top 3% of favorite long-sleeved shirts. I bought the Deep Sea Heather and it's pretty true to size. Love this baselayer!

I have one in every color!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I love these and wear them alone all the time, not just as a base layer. They're super soft and don't shrink if you wash and dry at a cool temp. I am a size 6 (38-28-38) and the medium is perfect. If you like a really snug fit for your base layer, go down a size.

      Best base layer ever

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs small

This is the perfect baselayer. All the seams are in the right places, the wool is soft and amazing, and it could easily pass for a regular tshirt. The cut is great, fits pretty snug IF YOU'RE USED TO AMERICAN SIZES.

I'm thinking of just buying one in every color and wearing them in my everyday life. Midweight is the weight to go, I think.Thank you Smartwool for such a great product!!

      Mom loves them

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I bought these for my mom to wear at home in China. They live in an apt with tiled floors and no central heating. It gets pretty cold there for 2-3 months a year. For comparison, she had me buy a pair of tops from Walmart as well. Within a week she was calling me and thanking me for these. She said the feel was awesome, the fit was just right and they kept her so much warmer and comfortable than the cotton crap that is sold at Walmart. She loved them so much I bought 3 more for her in different colors.

Getting smartwool midweight bottom for my wife for christmas - also looking at the crew top - is it very long? she is about 5'10 and slender and wears a med. Just wondering if it's long enough. thanks

      Steve,

I am a similar build and height and have trouble finding shirts that fit nicely. I think Medium would be a great size—these shirts aren't super generous in length, but fair for a Regular (versus Tall) size. I would suggest hand washing and definitely hang dry as they shrink a bit in the torso and arms.

Are these shirts itchy? I usually stay...

Are these shirts itchy? I usually stay away from wool as a base layer because I can't stand the itchy feel of wool on my skin. But someone said these shirts are different. Any feedback?

      Nope! Not at all Onep!

The Merino ram is a different breed than that which you think of when you imagine an old itchy sweater from days of yore.

The fiber is a LOT smoother (on a microscopic level) which results in better comfort and less irritation. Google Merino wool and take a look!

One HUGE hint: DONT put this stuff in the dryer. Let it air dry to avoid any shrinkage and prolong the life of the fabric.

Because it is a natural fiber rather than a synthetic fiber they tend to break down faster than artificially created fibers. Thus it's best to air dry to get the most life out of your garment. Hope this helps!

What size should I get if I wear a size...

What size should I get if I wear a size small in American sizes?

      Emily,

If you are used to wearing a small in most American brands I would suggest staying with a small in the SmartWool Midweight Crew. It will fit trim, but baselayers are intended to fit close to the body. If you would like to use this as a midlayer or prefer a slightly looser fit then you may be happier in a medium.
