  • Shoulder panels eliminate the need for top seams and rubbing
  • Form fit brings the fabric close to your skin for better performance
  • Hip length and drop-tail hem boost coverage
  • Flatlock interior seams, set-in sleeves, and a crew neck prevent rubbing and chafing if you're wearinging a pack and moving fast for hours
  • Contoured cuffs match your hands-forward position while you ski or skin

Great!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Great base layer, and when worn under a Smartwool mid-layer and a softshell wind breaker, it will take the bite out of 0 degree temps.

Claimed weight of 9 oz. = 255g. Is that...

Claimed weight of 9 oz. = 255g. Is that the same as 255g/m^2? I'm trying to compare how warm it will keep me compared to my Icebreaker 200 (200g/m^2).

Responded on

It is a 250g/m^2 fabric so it will be a bit thicker than the Icebreaker you already have.

Absolutely amazing

Got to give it to mother nature on this one. Best base layer I have ever used. Super comfortable, super breathable. Unfortunately the price is a little but nauseating but they aren't to hard to find on sale.

Critical

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the only base layer I use when I ski.I sweat a lot and it is the only thing I have found that keeps me dry which is critical in the cold.

Good but...

after two washings it gets kind of ratty. incredble function and great fit but breaks down fairly quickly. i wore it under my Norrona Jacket and was warm the whole day...also used it as a sweater at night because it looks so good...just need it to hold up a little longer

Responded on

Just don't throw it in the dryer. I hang them to dry and they look great for years.

Good for Working hard in the cold

Very nice fit and feels nice. When you sweat the thing dries you off and it goes away. No more wet cold shirt after a hard work out. 30 min later you are dry again. I love it. I wear it to work every day on the construction site at Jay Peak Ski Resort.

Responded on

I agree 100%. This was my 1st experience with Merino wool...I'll never use anything else.

A little larger then previous years?

Great base layer! Use it to go cycling in the winter months. Does a great job wicking away sweat, and keeps me warm even when wet. Open the jacket and it dries fairly quickly, too. Awesome stuff.

I also have an older version of this shirt, recently purchased from BC (i.e., it's not old and shrunken). It seems like this new one is slightly larger so is not as skin tight as the previous version, which I like. But the new one does feel a little heavier and warmer. Either way, it's another great article from Smartwool!

Warm and comfortable

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I bought this for my brother and he loves it. He wore it hunting multiple times in the cold and wind and stayed warm throughout the day.
