The SmartWool Women's Midweight Bottom has done a great job of keeping you warm and comfortable all day under your ski pants, so why put it away when the lifts close? It makes a fantastic après-ski legging when paired with a skirt (down skirt, perhaps?) and your fun, furry winter boots. In this new guise, you can enjoy the cozy merino wool into the wee hours, before you get up and do it all again the next day. Good thing wool has natural anti-odor properties, since it looks like this bottom is going to be getting a lot of use this vacation.

  • Soft merino feels great against the skin, insulates in cold weather, wicks moisture, and naturally inhibits odor
  • Wide self-fabric covered waistband is both comfortable and flattering
  • Flatlock seams go easy on your skin
  • UPF 50 protection blocks the sun before it can fry your skin

These tights are very warm, not scratchy, and are good for athletics, under not-tight pants, attractive enough with a skirt or dress to wear to work. They maintain shape, color, and texture even when worn and washed frequently. I wash mine by hand or in the machine inside a small mesh bag. I hang them to dry. These fit me well, and the best of the several brands I've tried. I'm 5' 6" 120lb with a small waist, a full bottom, and solid thighs from athletics. I bought a medium and these are body skimming, but not snug. By no means loose. These don't bite my crotch or thighs, the waistband lies flat, and they don't scoot down like other brands do on me. Again from my sports I have slender ankles yet muscular full calves, and these tights have room for my calves, too. Some brands like the Ice Breaker Body Fit 200 are too snug for me. The cuffs are perfect, and the length is right around my ankle. Not droopy and not riding up my lower calf. If I had longer legs, I might find these too short. But I love them. I've tried these, Ice Breaker, Stoic, and Patagonia. I now have three pair of these: black, dark aquamarine, and the heathered wine color.

I LOVE these bottoms, Smartwool merino wool bottoms are awesome and this newer style is updated for the better. I have tried many different brands and I think these bottoms are great because they fit tight all the way to the ankles (which means no clumping in the ski/snowboard boots), they are warm and breathable (when I'm doing long ski tours my heat is regulated in these), and the cut is flattering enough to look good when hanging out after skiing in your long undies. The colors are really fun too. The wider band around the waist makes for a less-squeezed look as compared to Smartwool's older styles. The other pair I have (same exact material) has withstood the test of time- I don't have to baby them when I wash them and they haven't lost their resiliency. They are really soft and they hold their shape really well after wearing them everyday, all day for a week straight. They're not the cheapest but they seemingly last forever so they're well worth the price. I'm 5'5", 123 lbs and wear a size XS which fits great. If you are taller definitely size up, regardless of how skinny you are these pants are just the right length for me but barely.

These leggings are everything I hoped they would be. I purchased a pair in black. The fabric is thick enough to be warm but breathes beautifully. It's soft - not itchy like you may expect from wool. I've worn them with dresses and used them as workout apparel. It makes switching from day to night outfits easy! I've also worn them for several days without washing and they don't stretch out or smell differently. It's the perfect base layer and I want a pair in every color!
