Combine a versatile base layer with the moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and breathable powers of wool, and you have the Smartwool Women’s Long-Sleeve Zip T-Shirt. The large front zipper allows you to ventilate when you’re moving fast, and the soft, stretchy wool works as a stand-alone shirt or as a next-to-skin layer in cooler conditions.

Bottom Line: A four-season base layer that wicks, breathes, and warms.

Soft & Wicking Base Layer

By:
December 29, 2008

This was a great next to skin layer for hitting the slopes. It kept me warm and dry, and the Merino wool was softer than some of the other Merino wool shirts I own. It's fit was true to size, and it's styling was great. The 1/4 zip helps you regulate temps too. It's a keeper!

China for manufacturing, but you might have to wait until late summer for black or find them somewhere else.

Wool is the way to go!

By:
November 24, 2008

I spend a lot of time sweating in the CO mountains. This year I converted to wool vs. polyester as an experiment. I bought the short-sleeved version of this shirt. I wear it as a base layer with another wool layer (just like this one but another brand) and it is MUCH more efficient at sweat wicking and is thus much better at keeping your body temp consistent than layering with polyester. I was working pretty hard one day this summer on my way up Blanca Peak and I happened to look down and notice beads of sweat collecting on the OUTSIDE of the shirt, while I felt warm and dry. How cool is that? Besides the anti-stink factor, the beauty of the thing is that the wool works equally well in heat or cold. I can wear it under warmer layers for winter, and by itself under my wind shell for climbing in the summer. Get yourself a wool tee, a wool 1/4 zip like this, and a heavier wool for winter and you're all set for anything mountain life throws at ya. Why buy anything else?

SW Zip T

Great fit! 5'10", 150 lbs, got a medium and it is perfect, nice long sleeves and torso length! No bare midriffs which happens to me a lot. I'd say it's warmer than it's polyester counterparts but it does shed my stank much better, and is very comfortable/soft. Plus the wasabi color is sweet.

Is this product 100% merino wool? I have one I purchased about

Is this product 100% merino wool? I have one I purchased about 5 years ago that I adore, and I want a new one, just like the old one... it is 100% wool, I believe and very light weight.

Not Itchy! Runs Small

By:
March 30, 2009

I have very sensitive skin, so was wary of trying wool long underwear. I bought a couple of Smartwool tops (including this one) and there's no redness and no sensitivity to the wool! And no stink!!! I even wore it for 2 hard/sweaty days on the mountain to test it - a slight deoderant smell in the armpit at the end of day 2, but no killer odor like you get with synthetics.

Nice athletic/non-boxy fit and long enough for me (5'9") BUT SIZE UP ONE SIZE. I had to get an XL to have it not be super-tight, and I usually wear a women's large/sometimes medium.

Great outdoors!

By:
April 1, 2009

I am 5'6, 125 and i got a size small. It fits perfectly. It is going to be my new favorite outdoorsporty shirt that will work great for layering too. I can't wait to wear it for ultimate frisbee tomorrow night to test it's true durability.

Smartwool Microweight zip T-neck

By:
March 25, 2009

I bought this to wear in warmer winter weather. It was perfect for 40 F! Kept my neck warm, could wear alone, or layer when outdoors. I wore it repeatedly without washing and it never got smelly. I have several poly pro tops, but now I think I'm addicted to wool!

This top is super comfy - very smooth, not at all itchy. I got the xs, and it's a fitted cut, which is great for a lightweight layer. I can sweat in it at the climbing gym or tele skiing and keep it on for the rest of the night (as opposed to stinky synthetic that makes me want to change quite desperately the minute I start sweating).
