The SmartWool Men's Microweight Short-Sleeve T-Shirt is airy and breathable enough for a summer hike, and wool's naturally quick-drying properties help you stay comfortable in the cooler months too when you layer it under a softshell. Thanks to the shirt's dapper look and anti-odor properties, you can keep it on when you hit up the riverside pub for drinks later. They won't throw you out for smelling like a yeti.
Bottom Line: You can't go wrong with microweight wool.
Awesome shirt. Fits true to size and very athletically. I've worn it on many multi-day long milage backpacking trips, and it has stayed funk-free and useable after some long hours on a sweaty dude. Dries out quickly too, which means you can get back to it faster. Overall, I'd recommend you buy plenty. You'll love them.
I bet supermans outfit was made out of this stuff. There is no way he could have felt comfortable in that tight fabric unless it was smartwool microweight. I can't believe everything in the world isn't made of wool! It breathes, it doesn't stink, it looks good, its comfortable. Its perfect! Except for..... The tag! Cameron Phillips is right, the tag is annoying. But it wouldn't hurt me from buying one again. And again. And again. But I won't have too, cause even after climbing in this for more days than you should in one shirt, it hasn't shown any excess signs of wear! Suprisingly durable.

Great as a base-layer in a multi layer system. A little chilly if it is all you are wearing. On colder ski days, i.e. <20F, I will layer this under a mid-weight and then under a soft-shell. Hope this helps
I own 4 of these shirts and wear them almost every day in the summer. It doesn't matter how good a synthetic shirt claims to be, how much carbon they attach to the threads etc., they all stink after physical activity. This shirt on the other hand doesn't care how much sweat it soaks up. It never smells bad. And it wicks moisture and evaporates it just a good as a synthetic shirt.
A good anecdotal story I tell people about Smartwool t-shirts is how I helped a buddy of mine during his recent move. I wasn't the guy just standing around telling everyone else where to put stuff. I was lifting furniture up and down several flights of steps, getting really sweaty. I ended up passing out in this t-shirt that night. I woke up the next morning and went jogging for 10 miles, still wearing this shirt. After all that sweating I was amazed how this thing didn't smell bad at all. Of course, I did, but the shirt didn't smell like anything.
Wash these on a gentile cycle as they are slightly delicate and let them hang dry. You won't regret this purchase.
As the other reviewer mentioned, these are great for backpacking, and are an ideal choice for warm weather, especially in the microweight thickness. They soak up sweat well, and you benefit from evaporative cooling. These are extremely soft against the skin, as are all of SmartWool's products. I like the cut and fit as well; fitted, but not skintight, and definitely not baggy.
I don't wear wool all the time, as I find myself drawn to plastics, recycled plastics, more and more. Sometimes, however, wool just feels right, and SmartWool does wool right, whether it's shirts, socks, beanies, or baselayers.
If I have one gripe, it is the tag, which sits about 3-4 inches up from the hem on the side seam of the shirt. It is just high enough to be against my side, and not against my shorts. Sometimes I notice it, sometimes I don't, but when I do, it bugs. I have even turned my shirt inside out on a hike to avoid it. I have no desire to take scissors or a blade to my new $65 shirt to cut it off.
For this kinda dough, I expect these shirts to be perfect. So many companies have gone tagless; I beg you, SmartWool, do the same. I am still giving this shirt five stars, but until they go tagless, "Almost Perfect."
I believe this is 150g Merino. The microweight was my first Merino shirt. I haven't looked back since then. I am slowly building up my Merino arsenal. I love how the Merino wicks and dries extremely quickly. Ideal for any outdoor activity, but a must for backpackers. Smartwool tends to run a bit more relaxed as far as fitment than Icebreaker and a few other companies. I would buy this shirt over and over! 6' 135lbs, Medium is a bit baggy.
Great shirt. The extra cost for wool is definitely worth it. They dry quickly and do not retain odors like cotton shirts do. Contrary to popular belief wool excellent for summer activities. a must have for long backpacking trips
A wool T shirt seemed like an oxymoron to me. A few years ago I bought one on sale thinking it would be a winter or fall base layer. Fast forward to last month...the airlines lost my baggage on a cycling trip to Italy. My smartwool microweight T shirt, black by the way, was all I had for two weeks. This shirt doesn't absorb body odors, doesn't wrinkle, dries relatively quickly, and keeps it's shape. I wore it riding, hiking, to dinner, on the plane and never looked in the mirror and cringed at the sight. The color black looked a little more "smart casual" and didn't show dirt. They also work in hot weather as well as a cotton t shirt. I own several of these shirts now and wear them year around. I highly recommend them.
