Great base

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I was interested in finding a smartwool next to skin because I loved my smartwool midweight zip top so much. I primarily got this top for running outside in the spring, and the fact that it breathes well and dries FAST is awesome. As far as sweat evaporation is concerned, I can definitely tell the different between this top and a regular cotton long sleeve. After two home runs from smartwool, you better believe I'll be buying a few more tops! And maybe some sockies too :)

Great weight all year

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I really like the micro weight stuff for summer or when I am doing a bunch of aerobic activity. It breaths so well that you never get too warm, but can keep your arms covered. This is my go-to layer for snow climbs in the spring and summer when its hot and I want to stay covered to avoid sun-burn while out on an open snowfield.

Great warm and looks attractive!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

What more could you want. The colors are beautiful and I have purchased two now. The 150 weight is perfect for a cold day to wear alone or under a sweater. Yes, it can be a bit see-through but if u wear the correct underneath you are fine. I have not used this shirt for workout out yet ( it's too pretty now- in a couple yrs it will move down n become a work out shirt)

See-through but great

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I love Smartwool and own half a dozen tops. The microweight is kind of thin, though, so you gave to be careful what color bra you wear underneath if you're going to wear it by itself. That being said, they are very soft and warm. I'm a size 6 (38-28-38) and the medium is perfect. Order a size down if you like a snug base layer.

Merino Wool!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I wish all my clothes were merino wool! The breathe-ability, fast drying, and odor-less wool has really got me addicted! This is my favorite layer, I wear it next to skin and will top it off with a flannel for those chilly fall days. This layer is great for any outdoor activity you can think of! No tumbholes in this NTS layer in case you were wondering. Fit is perfect, true to size! Colors are prettier in person! Can't wait for this layer in the wintertime!

WoooHooo!

I moved from living in an arid scrubland with nearly no humidity and big temperature swings to living right off a salt flat that is usually warm and clammy or cold and clammy. Not only is this environment very inclement towards clothing (things just melt when washed) it's very hard to get comfortable and STAY comfortable.

Smartwool seems to hold up well to the wash (and doesn't need to go in as often!) and it seems comfortable through more temperature profiles than I expected. Smartwool isn't just a smart product, for me it's a smart buy -- I simply can wear it more often than I can other products. (The pieces, since they are intended as gear aren't what you might initially think to wear to the office or to dinner, but it's easy to camouflage them.)

Word to the wise -- out of the box the product really feels weird. I think it's starched. Once it's washed it fits better and feels like silk. So don't compltely judge it into you'll washed it once or twice. (I use the Eco soap from Costco and get fantastic results. I don't think you need anything special, but I wouldn't use something harsh like Tide or All.)

wool ~ my new passion!

I am in love with these wool shirts. I am amazed how they do not hold odors & how easy to wash out drips & dirt. The temperature regulating from hot to cold is wonderful. This particular one is light weight & looks a bit like a thermal shirt. I am happy with it.

Flattering

Hard to tell but if you zoom in on this product photo it has a lovely pattern to it. A great base layer from on to off the hill!

Smartwool is amazing

I love Smartwool...I've done my best to convert my entire wardrobe, and this shirt has stood up to expectations. It's light enough to be worn in the 90 degree heat, but kept me from freezing when the temperature dropped to 50, the wind kicked up, and I was already sweaty.

I wish that the shirts were either slightly less expensive or less prone to snagging...it's a bit sad to tear a hole in a 60 or 70 dollar shirt (and all of my shirts have small holes in them, but we did quite a bit of hiking through vicious plants). I'll probably address the problem by buying another set of these to wear when I'm not on the trail and save the damaged ones for the woods.

The grey is basically as seen in the picture: nothing too exciting. I have the microweight v-neck in violet; it's quite a pretty color and it has a nice subtle pointelle pattern in it...I really like it.

Great buy!

This shirt is supersoft, very thin without being sheer, and nicely fitted. I've worn it as an extra layer in the mornings in the summer and love it. Haven't had it for winter hikes, but it has the potential to be a great baselayer. I'm 5'9", 170, 36C and the large is great. Bonus, the mineral color is lovely (not as neon as the picture makes it seem).
