Wear the SmartWool Women's Microweight Boy Brief when you trail run, hang out at base camp, do pilates, or sit by the fire after a day skiing. These form-fitting, lightweight briefs are made from super soft, non-itchy Merino wool. Because they're made from wool, which wicks moisture and helps regulate your body temperature, they keep you dry and comfortable on warm and cool days alike. These briefs don't hold odor like synthetics do, either. Flat seams eliminate chafing and a gusseted crotch provides roominess.
Bottom Line: The SmartWool Microweight Boy Brief is high-performance underwear.
Let me start by saying I have tried almost every boy short imaginable and had just about determined that boy shorts weren't for me, but then I found these. They fit well, do not ride up, the fabric feels great, and they wash up nicely. They have a slightly longer inseam that most boy shorts (although not as long as it appears in the picture), and I think this helps them stay in place. They are nearly perfect. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I think I'd like them even better if the rear seam was done slightly differently. Don't plan on wearing these to eliminate panty lines under tighter fitting pants and shorts though. You won't have a panty line, but you will have a shorts line at the legs.
Soft, non-itchy, warm, comfortable wool underwear. I have worn them under skirts, pants and snowboarding. They have never irritated me one bit. Oh, and they are cute too (as far as underwear go). Great purchase. I bought one in both colors, and I'm thinking about getting more.

I've sworn by my SmartWool long underwear and half-zip shirts for years, so I decided to try these briefs as a lightweight keep-my-butt-warm layer for chilly fall hiking. They kept me warm without being sweaty, there was no chafing, and they looked darned cute when I peeled off my hiking pants to lounge by the woodstove at the end of a great day of hiking.
These are great fitting briefs that won't bunch or ride up. Wore them out on a cold (25F) snowy 20+ mile run and didn't have freeze butt at all. Great layering piece that you won't even know that you have on.
The boy briefs are perfect under my ArcTeryx shells. I now have 2 pair which keep me going in between laundry. They are definitely NOT itchy, are light weight and go nicely under my SmartWool leggings. You really can't go wrong. They are great in cold or warm ski conditions; I'm an instructor so am in all weather conditions. They are also very good for backcountry wear. Don't think twice.
I so wanted to love these "boy briefs" but as soon as I put them on and pulled pants up over them, they started to roll up on me. Even after rolling them back down, within several minutes, they had again rolled back up my leg. Perhaps this only happens to larger women as I was wearing size XL. They needed to be about 4 inches longer in length and I think they would have stayed in place.
These are the best underwear I have had so far. I love the boy brief cut, keeps my bum in place, and the wool is light, breathable, soft, comfortable, dries fast and easy hand wash. Great for ski, snowshoe, running, and everyday good ol' Canadian winter weather...
