A multi-season wool dress that hits above your knees and just below your elbows.
Shaped with a steadily stylish A-line, the SmartWool Women's Maybell 3/4 Dress kisses the tops of your knee caps as it gently swings from your hips. The surplice neckline creates a deep v-neck, flattering most bustlines. Three-quarter length sleeves make the Maybell a year-around option for multi-season versatility. The Maybell's merino is enhanced with a touch of spandex for excellent drape and travel-friendly wrinkle-resistance. Don't fret if you drip a little affogato on this dress after touring the Vatican — simply wash it in the hotel sink at night, lay it flat to dry, and you'll be dress-ed by breakfast.

I never thought I would spend so much on a single piece of clothing, but it was totally worth it!
I got this dress for laundry day and dress up situations on a minimalist long distance trek (one all merino hiking outfit, one pair extra socks, one pair extra underwear, this dress), but it is so comfy and flattering that it's going to get worn much more often than that. I'm so pleased the three quarter length sleeve version was still available; It looks like Smartwool has changed the style a bit to a short sleeve version with a different cut/style this season.
The fabric of this dress is probably the slinkiest I have encountered in my Smartwool products. It's not as thick and warm/fuzzy as my mid layers (250 wt I think), but definitely feels more substantial (and is not translucent!) than my micro weight layers. Nice job Smartwool.
I've encountered occasional an itchiness factor in Smartwool micro weight products, but this dress is the farthest from that as possible. All those no-wool folks with stories of itchniess in merino products should consider this fabric because it could be a life-changer. Apparently adding spandex makes all the difference.
I got an XL. The description above is pretty accurate that this dress 'gently swings from your hips'. You have to be okay with your lines and curves above your hips because this dress was comfortably clingy from shoulders to hips. I especially like the scrunchiness along the shoulder seams. Nice detail.
For me, sleeves often make or break on how clothing fits (or doesn't!) me. These sleeves made it feel like my arms were being hugged the whole time I wore this dress. Ladies with bigger arm circumferences can totally go for this dress with no worries.
Almost but not quite for me

I am still looking for the perfect wool dress. I thought that this might be it. It's really a lovely dress-- it feels expensive and appeared to be very well made. The Deep Sea color is gorgeous. That said, I was hoping for a skirt with a little more flare/more pronounced A-line to skim over my trouble spots. My hips are quite wide compared to my torso and this dress was a little too clingy to be flattering. I highly recommend this dress to people who aren't so pear shaped.
I love this dress. I purchased the dress in black and plan to also purchase the Sea Blue color. The material is soft, flattering and really comfortable. The quality is fantastic, as expected from Smart Wool. The dress moves really well, does not wrinkle and goes easily from the office to evening. It is a totally versatile piece, and it looks great with a scarf and a few accessories. I am very petite, so I had the length taken up to be just at my knees. However, this is personal preference. Backcountry has the best price so go ahead and give it a try!
