Very relaxed shirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

Overall, a well made shirt. Great color and I love Merino Wool but the "relaxed" fit makes it about a size too large! I ordered a Medium (5'10"/168) and it drapes over me. I'd say it's between a size and a size and a half too large for me to wear.

Otherwise a great product but I'd suggest ordering a size down.

FYI

  • Fit: True to size

For those looking to purchase the shirt in Liberty (color), be forewarned that contrary to the picture above, it is in fact a deep purple color. Still overall good merino wool t-shirt. Nice comfortable fit, just not the right color I expected.

The ultimate t-shirt?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I'm 5'11, 175lbs with broad shoulders and the large fit pretty well. It's maybe just a bit looser than most of my casual tshirts.

I've loved this t-shirt. When I've been on trips I've been able to wear it for multiple days without it totally reeking. The material is super comfortable. It hand washes well.

I have this T-Shirt

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased my SmartWool T-shirt about 8 months ago and its been the best T-shirt ever. I have several Smartwool shirts, but this style just fits me better. True to size. I wear a Large on everything. I am 5'8 and 185lbs with 18in arms and it just snugs my arms perfectly and goes down enough. The smartwool 150 shirts are super tight and short in lengh compared to these. Plus, this one seems thicker too.

Great shirt - slouchy fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This shirt is 1 of my 5 merino tops and is the one I wear the least. For me (5'9" 115lbs.), it fits like a medium. It's advertised as a relaxed fit, but it's just a bit more relaxed than anything "relaxed" I've ever owned.

I find it useless for anything active as the loose areas bunch up and rub my body, but it's a great casual shirt.

If you want a merino shirt for casual wear this a good choice. If you want something for casual and active wear, consider a different fit.

Worn 4x before washing!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I haven't had my SmartWool Crew very long. It's only just come from it's third washing, but so far I'm pretty happy with it. It was generally soft out of the package and, as some have said, it does indeed get a little softer with each wash. Since this is a crew, don't go looking for an insulative wow factor, though it is a tad warmer than your basic tee. Sizing seemed to be right on. I usually wear a M-L, got the M and haven't been disappointed at all. Finally, the rumors about odor control seem to also be true. To protect it from multiple washings, I've strangely worn it as many as four times between washes -- something I'd never even consider with a smelly cotton shirt which is worn only once before it hits the suds!

I just got this, and used it as a base layer for some fieldwork in N. NM. Really love it. Feels soft and doesn't stink when you've worn it for a few days.

My new favorite base layer.

gotta get a few more. Hooked on the smartwool stuff right now. It doesn't start to stink as soon as I put it on which is nice

Casual T - Great comfort

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am trying to buy more and more wool products after finding out how amazing a couple pairs of socks have been. This shirt makes me want to keep reaching out. Very comfortable. I used it only a couple times in a recent trip.

Wore it on the plane ride out to my destination (about 12 hours of travel) threw it aside for a week then grabbed it and went hiking around the Redwood forest and grabbed it before my flight back. No smell and quite comfortable.

I'm 5'10" 178 and bought the Large. It fits like a casual T, not too baggy but not tight.

Are these discontinued? I was hoping to get an XL in "Tangerine", but it appears out of stock.

Thanks!

Casual T-shirt fit with wool performance

I love wool base layer but don't always want to look like I am heading out for a hike or about to layer up. This crew fits more like a regular t-shirt making it much more "around town" friendly with all the performance of wool.

What is the thickness of this shirt?...

What is the thickness of this shirt? Compared to Icebreaker 150 specifically.

Nice, but pretty darn big

Definitely a high quality T but cut pretty large IMO. I'm 6'2". ~ 185lbs w/ a 44.5" chest and ~35" waist and got an XL in Silver. I went ahead and tumbled dry on low after my first cold water washing in an attempt to lose a bit of the volume but I may have to try washing on warm as it's still a bit looser/longer than I'd like.

I wish some one would make merino crews in a cut somewhere between this and the NTS/Icebreaker Tech Tee w/ some solid standard colors. The cut on the Stoic shirts in XL are just about perfect but they can't seem to make any decent colors anymore.

I'm 100% with you there. I've got a few of the Stoic 150 gm/m^2 tops and really like them. Fit is great, but the year to year colors on the Stoic stuff is hit and miss- not sure what kind of evil backroom deal convinced Stoic, Arc'teryx and a few others to ditch all the good colors for a palette based on reject 80s ski gear.
