Smartwool Looks Smart
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
Just picked up a pair of these and I'm loving them. Soft, comfortable, and you can't beat merino wool over cotton. Plus I love that I can have super soft wool socks that still look classy.
I wear a 7.5/8 and ordered the Medium.
As always, I hang dry wool, so I haven't tested to see how these hold up to the dryer, I'd rather not risk it.
The only sock I wear
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
I've worn nothing but SmartWool cable crew socks for the past 3 years. They are the perfect weight for everyday wear through Fall, Winter, and Spring. I wear them everyday with my leather boots and they keep my feet comfortable all day long. They are very durable and it's amazing how the socks resist odors. If you're looking for a thick, cushy sock- keep looking. These are thin, lightweight 'dress' socks. With regard to scratchiness that other reviewers have mentioned, I don't feel any. I wear an 8.5 to 9 shoe, and I order a medium and they fit me perfect. With that said, I will second the reviewer who mentioned these socks do pill, and if you have cats that shed (like me), the socks seem to attract the fur. Nothing major. I just use a sweater comb and go over the socks when I think of it. Overall, these are great socks and I will continue to buy them.
I Heart Smartwools
I love smart wool socks. They're comfortable, not itchy and they last a long time. I'm not sure what else I could ask for.
I won't go without them!
I used to have cold toes all winter long. Then I started wearing SmartWool socks. The best part is my feet don't overheat either. I no longer wear any other types of socks.
These are the ones that I wear on a daily basis in the office. I just love them!
Wool socks are nice :)
This gets mentioned more often in the reviews of the men's version of the sock, so let me bring it up here:If your feet sweat at all, wool is the way to go. I think what happens with cotton is that they make your feet warm, so your feet sweat--bam, now you have wet socks and cold feet.I couldn't believe until I tried these how uncomfortably clammy my feet feel even on mild days in cotton socks. I switched over to wearing these exclusively and you definitely owe it to yourself to give them a try.
What I haven't seen in any other reviews--so take it with a grain of salt--is that these run small. In fact, several of the other smartwool socks I've tried too. I'm a 9 in running shoes so even smaller in dress shoes but I'm definitely better off with the large size. It's not a matter of shrinkage with washing because the larges fit great right out of the box. They're flexible so a smaller size works, but the toes are less roomy and the reinforced part of the heel doesn't reach high enough so they wear a little faster.
these are a little scratchy but not enough to bother me. i overheat easily and these are thin and keep my feet warm. i also love the solid colors. and by that i mean the black pair.
She really loves these socks!
I got these as a gift for my older Mom, whos feet are always cold. She loves them so much she wants me to get her some more.
OK for my cold feet at work
lightweight, but slightly scratchy. Work well for my cold feet at work or casual. washer and dryer safe.
not the best sock, but okay
I love SmartWool socks, in general, but these don't really seem the same. They are okay, but they pill up terribly in the wash, and don't seem to breathe as well as other SmartWools I own. As usual, though they fit well and are comfortable. They seem like they will last, too.
Best socks ever!
My husband and I LOVE Smartwools! We were first introduced to them at a local shoe store, but their selection of women's socks left much to be desired. So, I went searching on the web and Backcountry helped me stock up! I'm a teacher and I always have cold feet, must have been that frostbite when I was a teen. Smartwools keep my feet toasty and warm, with no sweating! Even with clogs, my feet are warm. My first pairs are a few years old, and look as good as my new ones. Just don't dry them for too long or on too high a heat in the dryer, or you'll cook the elastic. I dry mine on low for about 10 minutes, then I hang them to finish drying.
I purchased these as a gift after trying several pairs of Smartwool's casual socks (I love the striped ones) and was a bit disappointed. I loved the color (green), but they just didn't feel soft and comfy like I'd hoped. Hopefully they are better for the recipient after a wash and a wear.
What is the absolutely the warmest but...
What is the absolutely the warmest but thinest sock you have?
The warmest sock isn't the thinnest and vice versa. If you want warm and thin, look for something in merino wool.
Love Smartwool Cable Socks
I'm a huge fan of Smartwool socks. I am always cold & wool is an absolute must to keep warm. Since I wear them everyday, it is nice to have socks that are lightweight and warm. No extra bulk in the shoes - just warm, dry, comfy feet. I don't know what I'd do without them! Definitely recommend. I purchased the black this time around & have had no issues with color fading.
Fantastic dress socks
I bought these socks in black and oatmeal heather, and they are WONDERFUL! I wear them to the office with wool pants and dress loafers when it's cold. They are sooooo much better than cotton! Not only do they keep your feet warm, but they wash like a dream and don't lose their color. They also work well with khaki pants and clogs when I'm dressing "nice casual."
My only complaint is that the shade of the heathered colors is not consistent. One pair in oatmeal heather can be just right; another can be muddy-looking, with too many grayish threads. However, this does not detract from the comfort and value of the socks. They are truly fantastic.
Comfy socks, but beware of color.
I purchased these for my wife. She has said that these socks are very comfortable and warm, but the color we received doesn't look anything like what you're seeing here. I purchased the Earth Heather and it looks closer to Mud Grey. Ha-ha! And no, we did not mistakenly receive the Black. Even the label said Earth Heather. Bottom line: If you're not too picky about color, you might like these comfy and wam socks.
Smartwool's great, but these aren't...
I love Smartwool socks and have been wearing their hiking socks for years. I also like the Saturn stripe stocks. Since I like Smartwool so much, I thought I'd give these Cable socks a try for the office. Well I was very disappointed. They actually feel rough, fit poorly, and are slightly scratchy. I will probably go ahead and wear them, since I would feel stupid returning socks I've worn, but I definitely won't buy any more of them.
