As the flagship in the Simond line, the Anaconda Cup Ice Tool includes top-end features like a high-clearance shaft, forged pick for durability, and pommel rest to reduce finger bashing. Simond designed the Anaconda Cup Ice Tool with their Carving Concept fluted shaft to reduce vibrations for less ice shattering and better penetration. When you need to clear burly cauliflowers on the way to the next belay, count on this high-clearance Simond tool.

Bottom Line: Pull down the steepest ice with the Simond Anaconda Cup Ice Tool.

Is there any difference in swinging momentum between this and the Naja? I would like to get one (not one pair!) of each the Naja and Anaconda. I'm not really looking to do WI but more mixed routes. Friends think I should only get a pair Najas. What would you do?

Those two are almost the exact same tool except for the grip and hand rest on the Anaconda. I would get the Anaconda for any mixed because of the grip and hand rest. I don't know if i would use these for strictly mixed climbing either...they don't have a very aggressive geometry for easy pick placement in cracks and on crimps. I would suggest Coyote, Nomic, Viper, reactor, or cobra...your call though. Good luck!

So far I really like these tools. They have good clearance over bulges, and work well on low angle and steep ice. They feel great regardless of whether or not I'm using the leashes. They also plunge easily into snow, despite the wide hand rest at the bottom.

My only real gripe is that the long leash cord can be a pain when placing screws. If you don't hold on to it somehow, it tends to want to wrap around the screw when turning. Maybe its just me, since these are my first tools with a removable leash.

How is the handle diameter compared to e.g. the Petzl Aztar?

How is the handle diameter compared to e.g. the Petzl Aztar? Is the handle material grippy or slippy? The leash looks like it closes around the wrist just with velcro; true? And it looks like it attaches to the knob just with the metal fitting, or is there some kind of indent there that helps keep the two together? Is that hole through the shaft by the knob all the way through the shaft so that I could attach a different kind of leash if I so wished? Can that index finger trigger attachment be added for extra control?

I know this answer is really late, but better late than never. If you haven't bought tools yet i can highly recommend these. The shaft diameter is much like the BD Reactor, not super familiar with the Aztar. The handle is grippy, a trigger can be installed, and the hole at the top is for an extra leash or some sort of extra attachment. The leash is webbing all around the loop, but cinches tighter with the velcro. The leash does attach at the knob, but the knob is a push button and all you do to take the leash off the tool is push in and rotate (it is a lot like the android from BD). Hope that helps.

Offers a good weight for ice and mixed and the leash (which acts much like the Viper/Cobra android) is amazing for long hauls.
