The Silvretta Pure Alpine Touring Binding is probably a result of the nasty uphills in the Alps that Silvretta engineers have to climb. The Pure is mind-bendingly light at 1200 grams (2.7 lbs) and has a unique pivot point mounted under the ball of the foot for a natural, comfortable stride with less moving parts. In keeping with its easy touring goal, the Pure's dual position climbing bar is easy to adjust with a ski pole on the fly. Crampons are available, and can be used simultaneously with the included 90mm brake. The 35mm rise of the Pure lets you crank over onto your edges and give the hill hell, which it deserves for making you climb it.

Bottom Line: What goes up must lay first turns down.

Light, and holds you in. What else do you need

After riding four times with the DIN 8 (I'm 160lbs) and slamming into WET snow-gun snow and rocks in VT pre-season, they held me in just fine. I like the stride of the pivot under toe and much lighter than my Naxo 01s. Only complaint is once snow got gunked up under the pivot which needs to be cleared out before being able to lock into ski mode.

Silvretta Pure

Overall, despite a few quirks, these have been great bindings. They're a lot more durable than they look. I am 6'1", 180lb with a size 9 Garmont G-Ride boot. Pre-release issues were solved by cranking the DIN up one more. Since I did that, I've only come out when I absolutely needed to - and I ski pretty hard. Great, simple design on the release mechanism! Touring is very comfortable and you really notice the weight savings.
My only beefs are with the lockdown lever/heel lifter piece. It kind of has a mind of its own. It will sometimes grab the heel of the binding on the upstroke in flat touring mode, and sometimes the lifters will drop by themselves. It is also very difficult to get it to lock into alpine mode without removing your ski. Usually, this is because snow and ice gets packed under it and you need to "clap" the bindings a few times to clear them. These are all just minor annoyances that don't seriously affect performance. This binding has it where it counts—light weight, durability, comfy touring stroke, a secure lock-down, and a release that performs like it should.

Pure gold - great AT binding!

By:

I have been skiing in the backcountry for over 30 years, and this seems to be the best advancement in AT bindings to date. I have been skiing Fritschi's for several years until now. I am 5ft 11in and 200lb, expert skier. I have these mounted on a pair of BD Havoc skis with Garmont G-Ride boots. I could not be happier, the whole package is awesome. The bindings are easy to adjust with a ski pole. The two stage heel riser is easy to use and works (doesn't slip out of place). The pivot point is perfect for climbing steep hills. I have the DIN set at 8 at both points. After hitting a hidden wind blown chunk under the powder, my tip stuck in and I head planted. My right ski that took a dive released like it should have. I was concerned about no toe release but the people at Silvretta got it right. The perfect combination of superb uphill perfomance, light weight, and maximum safety on the descent. I went with a size medium and use a boot that is 27 mondo sizing (size 10 USA shoe). Bomber gear.
