Saved my butt

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you are looking for an ultra fancy full feature compass for something along the lines of geocaching, keep moving this compass is not for you.

If you are looking for a compass to point north when it is dark and you have been looking for your friends in the wilderness for 4 hours, this is it.

Does what a compass should do on a basic level! The bright orange color and the fact that it floats have both already come in handy for me. My only gripe is it can be hard to open one handed especially in the dark, but that is far from a deal breaker for me.

Adequate small compass

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is a perfectly adequate compass for backup or "just in case" situations. Two degree divisions, and a non-adjustable declination setting, mean you wouldn't use it for orieteering or surveying, but it's fine for rough wayfinding, which is enough in most areas if done right. Light, small, and highly visible in the orange color. Just what I had been looking for at a good price.
