Like lots of headroom, multiple doors, and lots of gear storage? Then you’ll love the Sierra Designs Zeta 2 Tent. This two-person shelter features tons of mesh panels for increased air flow and large front and rear vestibules to store your packs, boots, and other items. The hubbed pole system and pole clips makes for quick and easy setup, and the vestibule weather window lets you check the conditions without going outside. At eight feet in length, even the tallest hikers can stretch out after a long day on the trail.

Bottom Line: Live large in the Zeta 2.

Decent Tent

This is a decent tent. When I got it, the actual weight of the thing out of the box was almost exactly 6 lbs, (a little more than 5.5 listed in the specs, but if you remove stuff, it could get a little lighter).

I took it to Red Castle Lake in the Uintas and it was light enough. The weather was windy, rainy and at one point hailed on us. Tent kept us dry and fairly warm. I didn't notice any condensation the next morning either.

There are a lot of neat things I didn't realize about this tent until after I set it up. The fly has a vent that you can open that allows a little more air through.

The jakes foot clips for the poles are kind of neat. You basically just clip the poles, fly and footprint to the same thing. Very little hassle.

The fly has adjustable straps built in as well that make it easy to pull the fly tight.

Lastly, the fly has small velcro straps that you can use to strap the fly to the poles for good wind protection.

It does have two vertical zippers so that it can roll up and out of the way. In the picture above too you can kinda see the two small straps at the top of the door that secure the door when it is all the way up.

Decent Tent

I used the tent the 1st day I got it and quite easily and quickly set it up in the dark just as it was starting to rain. I read the instructions on the way to the trail head, and would definitely recommend reading the instructions before setting up the 1st time, since the tent setup is a little different than many other tents. The tent has done well in several moderately hard rain showers without any signs of leaking. It has never been in an all day/all night rain so do not know how it fares there. I have used the tent in some very humid environments. The tent seems to ventilate well if you use the vent, and especially if one of the vestibule doors is cracked open. The tent does OK in moderate winds, but can make a racket if not oriented correctly in a stronger wind. I bought the tent to get sufficient room for two people and their gear. It does have good storage space for gear in the vestibules The interior of the tent is very roomy. So far the construction quality seems to be OK. I have not had any problems with the hardware.

The main downside I see is that the tent is a little heavier than tents designed to be especially light for backpacking, but it still was still light enough to be carried.
