Sierra Designs built the Yahi 6 Tent to be amply spacious for several people, which makes it an ideal base-camp or family-camping tent. An extra pole at the roof creates gobs of headroom, so much so that even a six-foot tall person could stand up fully in the center. A generous 80 square feet of floorspace is enough to sleep six, and with all those people, dual doors make entry and exit less of a hassle.

  • Two doors and two vestibules mean the whole posse can get in and out without stepping on each others' toes
  • Waterproof fly and floor fabric feature fully taped, PVC-free seams for added protection from rainstorms and soggy weather
  • Superseal floor tech combines the benefits of catenary and bathtub floors by featuring both raised and taped seams for a tighter pitch and better protection
  • Optic white canopy is easier on the eyes in the morning and diffuses a soothing, white light inside throughout the day
  • Vents in the rainfly keep the tent's interior from getting muggy even when you've battened down the hatches; windows cut down on cabin fever
  • Strong DAC poles maximize stability, and pole configuration maximizes interior headroom so nobody feels cramped
  • M-hub section connectors enhance strength and ease of setup
  • Jake's Foot pole attachment utilizes a ball-and-socket design to keep the pole end in place during setup and easily pops out for take-down
  • Reflective door trim helps you find your tent again after you tend to nature's call in the middle of the night
  • Hanging stash pockets help you keep track of small items

Family friendly

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This tent is extremely roomy, easy to setup solo or with help (3 year olds are especially helpful), and overall a great base camp/car camping tent.

All of the components seem to be well made and should hold up to years of use.

Several guy-out points allow for improved stability in the windy conditions, which is great considering this thing looks like a barn when set up.

It is a bit on the heavy side, but it's not like you are going to spend a lot of time backpacking with this thing (at least not solo).

Overall this has been a great tent to help get the family out and about.

So far so good

This purchase was basically house shopping for me as I decided to spend this summer living in a tent. I was able to purchase this tent on sale for $280. It is very spacious and for one person obviously has a lot of room. My biggest fear was that I would be unable to set this baby up without the help of someone else, but thankfully that was not the case. In fact, it is quite easy to set up/take down all by yourself (~15 min). I haven't had more than one houseguest at a time yet but if you wanted to use this as a family tent I think it would suffice. The rain fly is also very easy to setup but I would say that I would have liked a little more room in the vestibule area, really a minor gripe. It is by no means light but what do you expect? Great for car camping or you can easily split the components among friends for more adventurous camping. I'm giving it 4 stars because I have had some cold nights and even though it clearly says 3 season tent I reserve the right to be irrational at times and demand my gear go above and beyond.
