People have likened climbing into the Sierra Designs Utopia Sleeping Bag to being in the womb. While the feeling of warmth and serenity might be comparable, this three-season synthetic bag is much more breathable and conducive to movement than most of the wombs we know of. It weighs a reasonable three pounds, packs compactly, and boasts enough insulating power to keep you comfy during cool fall nights or high-altitude summer backpacking trips.

  • An EN lower-limit rating of 34° F means that this bag is best used for summer trips in the mountains and for three-season use at lower elevations
  • HeatSync synthetic insulation compresses well and retains warmth even if it gets slightly wet
  • Offset Layer baffles reduce heat loss and cold spots
  • Flex stretch construction allows seven to eight extra inches of girth and helps eliminate dead air space inside the bag
  • Tough ripstop shell withstands trail abuse and feels soft against your tired body
  • A zippered draft tube, adjustable collar, and hood seal you off from chilly summer weather
  • Shaped footbox doesn't restrict your natural sleeping position
  • A pillow pocket lets you insert a hoody or camp pillow (sold separately) for maximizing your sleepy times
  • A zippered chest pocket holds your headlamp for your nightly trip to the designated bush
  • Pad Locks hold your sleeping pad underneath so it stays put

Handled a rainy night well.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I tried this bag out on a very rainy overnight hike recently, I didn't tuck in my tent's ground cloth (accidentally) so I ended up with a puddle by my feet. Overall the bag was warm, I believe it got to the mid 40's (F). It works, it is light weight and it is relatively cheap.

Excellent for side sleepers!

This bag was recommended as a good choice for a side sleeper who likes to also move around a lot. That's me. This bag lived up to the hype. I used it on two recent camping trips and have slept the best ever in those settings. Well worth the money, and looking forward to many years of use!
