    Outlast the storm.

Your friend may have promised you perfect weather on your backpacking trip, but Mother Nature defiantly served up soaking rains and unrelenting wind. Luckily, you brought the rain-shedding, packable protection of the Sierra Designs Women's Hurricane Pant. Like its name suggests, this waterproof pant outlasts storms with its two-layer waterproof/breathable membrane. Not only does this block wind-driven rain from dampening your lower body, but it also allows perspiration to escape for comfort in damp conditions. And because it's destined for backcountry treks, the Hurricane Pant conveniently stows within its zippered thigh pocket for easy packing.

    They changed the fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: M

I wore the same pair of SD Hurricane pants for 8 years before I loaned them to a friend who put them in the dryer. :( I purchased this pair in the same size (medium) as my old pair and I couldn't even pull them up over my hips. Even the large was way too tight to move comfortably, even without shorts underneath. I wear a 10 in other brands, so I would expect a large to be roomy and comfortable, but this was not the case. I do not recommend these for anyone who has curvy hips or a butt. It's too bad, because my old pair were quite durable and kept me dry through many years of backpacking. Time to try something different.

    Zips

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

There's nothing wrong with the pants themselves, but the tech specs above state that they have 3/4 zips. The pants actually have 1/4 side zips. Disappointing, but still good pants for the price.

    Dry as a bone

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I just got back from a trip hiking in Iceland where we were met with horizontal freezing rain that whipped us for 9 straight hours at what felt like 70 mph. These pants kept my legs super dry and I could not be more thankful for that. I do wish they had a hook to clip into my boot laces, but otherwise these get an A+ from me.

If you have to wear dorky rain pants...

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

So no one ever wants to wear these kind of pants (DORK ALERT) but if you do find yourself hiking in S. American during the rainy season like myself (Inca Trail) these pants will quickly become life savers. I don't really like the look of them but they do the trick when it comes to keeping you dry. I wore them for 3 days straight.
