When your friend sent out the packing list for your upcoming overnight backpacking trip, she didn't include a rain jacket because, 'it's just an overnighter.' But you were always the wise one of the group and decided to bring along your Sierra Designs Women's Hurricane Jacket anyway. Now, your friend is a sopping mess and you're enjoying a lovely stroll through the glistening woods.
Solvent-free PU membrane provides protection against rain and falling snow
DWR coating encourages water and melting snow to bead up on the fabrics surface without affecting the garment’s overall breathability
Fully taped seams mean water won’t roll down the fabric and sneak in through the joints
Underarm vents lend airflow and increase evaporation when you work up a sweat
Center storm flap prevents rain from coming in through the front closure

if you're going to wear a thick coat underneath, definitely size up, however, I would suggest getting a winter jacket that you would want to wear stuff under.. that's usually more comfortable, especially if you're going to be doing a lot of outdoor activities
I ended up returning this jacket in favor of the North Face Venture jacket so I can't comment on it's waterproofness. I see this model now has the hood adjustment on the outside which I think is much easier to work with but it still doesn't have any adjustment on the back of the hood to keep it from falling over my eyes. I like the extra chest pocket which the Venture doesn't have. The Venture had the extra hood adjustment and seemed like it would be less clammy feeling on the inside.
Anyone know how this jacket is cut? My wife quite tall & thin (6', 120lbs) and we often have trouble finding jackets with long enough sleeves, but a slender enough body to fit her. Is the arm length good, or can someone make another suggestion on a comparable jacket in the $100 price point range?
Bought this for my trip to Maui. Hiking through rain forests was great and this was the best purchase I made prior to the trip. I wore it all the time. From Whale Watching to the hiking. It was perfect. It kept my phone, camera, anything in my pockets perfectly dry. No matter how much or how little it was raining.
Does this jacket has a lining? Or can anyone recommend a waterproof/ breathable rain jacket with a mesh or taffeta lining? I don't like feeling the back of the outer layer on my skin. I have a NF Venture, but it isn't lined. I don't need the jacket to be especially smal, lightl or compressible.
If you like the SD Hurricane, check out the Accelerator version: http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Sierra-Designs-Hurricane-Accelerator-Jacket-Womens/SDS0429M.html It has a brushed tricot lining.
Hi, Some suggestions : U can try the North Face 1) Varius Guide or 2) K Jacket (more an urban jacket). i personally own them, and they have HyVent 2L in faille weave, so it has a soft feel in the interior, as compared to the not too comfy feel in North Face's more commonly used waterproof material HyVent DT (Dry Touch - used in the Venture), which is not lined. The DT is always lighter, though. As a guide when u shop North Face rainwear, avoid the HyVent DT range since u don't like that feel.
Does this jacket have pit-zips and/or pack into it's own stuff sack? It looks like other versions on other sites have both, but the description on this page is really poor.
Hi Susan. Any time you see a "(number)K" rating for waterproofing it refers to the water column test. This fabric is rated to stop a 5000 mm water column over a 24 hour period of time. Any more than that and the fabric starts to leak.
I highly suspect you've seen ratings of "10K" not "1K" as the latter seems ridiculously low. That just means the fabric will withstand a 10000 mm water column for 24 hours. Most fabric are in the 10-25 K rating. We're starting to see some 30K jackets out there and even the odd 40K, but they are not widespread yet.
Gore-Tex does not use this type of testing to "rate" their fabrics so the waterproof rating of a Gore-Tex piece is "guaranteed". That means if it leaks, they will warranty it no questions asked.
Does the hood hide your entired head of hair. I have a lot of thick, wavy hair and it hates rain. I need to completelyi hide my hair. The last jacket I bought did not and I had to return it. Does it run true to size as well?
Write your question here...I recently lost my Sierra Designs rain jacket. It had a lumbar pocket which I thought was great. Does this jacket--or any other rain jacket--have the lumbar pocket?
The new Sierra Designs Rain jacket does not have a lumbar pocket but it has a check pocket and 3 interior storage pockets. The pockets work great. plus there is a stuff sack for storing the jacket or other things. I use the stuff sack for my camera.
Does anyone know the difference between this jacket and the North Face Venture jacket? I'm going to school in Bellingham next year and need a good, packable rain jacket.
The hood lays open. The older version had a pocket for the jacket to pack into the hood. It didn't work very well. Now it has a stuff sack. I like the stuff sack because I can use it for storing my camera.
