Just when you thought hurricane season was over.

Even though the weather outside is raging, you'll feel like you're in the eye of the storm when you wear the Sierra Designs Men's Hurricane Jacket. The durable nylon ripstop shell has a DWR coating and a PU clear coat to keep you dry even when during a torrential downpour, and it's lined with taffeta and mesh for breathability and comfort. The regular fit allows plenty of room to wear layers underneath so you can just toss it over whatever you're wearing, whether you're on the trail or in the city. Die-cut underarm vents keep you cool without the hassle of zippers, while a hem drawcord and cuff tabs prevent chilly drafts from blowing in. Plus, the hand and chest pockets are accessible even when you have a pack on.

Definitely Runs Small

  • Fit: Runs small

Purchased one of these for my adult son who normally wears a large or extra large. The Sierra Designs size chart indicated a large for him by waist and chest and collar sizes (there were two size "L" columns and two XL columns on that chart for some reason). That "L" jacket was uncomfortably small even on me (same weight as forty years ago, about 156 to 160 lbs) unless I wanted to wear it with a T shirt and have the skinny teenager "tight shirt" look even then. I normally wear size L but sometimes a medium in higher quality clothing.

The L had to be returned and so did the XL for an XXL. Rain gear is most often worn over other clothing and should at least be true to size or a bit larger. So, bottom line is Order a size or two up from your normal one.

Backcountry did handle the returns and replacements very well and were quite pleasant with whom to deal all at no extra cost to us other than the time and trouble. You can't beat the service but the hassle would be much less if the page for this item mentioned and cautioned folks about the size selection. That is why I am leaving this review, to save others and Backcountry the hassle and cost of return and replacement.

My son does like the jacket and has had opportunity to use it . It is nice enough for town and so he has another "work rain suit" to use for moving cattle and hauling in firewood.
