Alpha 3 Convertible Tent 3-Person 4-Season

Like a Porsche with a studded snow tires, Sierra Designs' Alpha 3 Convertible 3-Person 4-Season Tent shrugs off winter storms, then sheds its armor for starry summer overnights. To please snow-loving loonies like you, Sierra Designs built the Alpha 3 Convertible to house you and two equally deranged friends in the worst, wind-whipped winter campsite tundra. When winter turns to summer, lend the Alpha 3 Tent to one of your clinically sane friends, and watch him drop a whole pound off his back by leaving the shock-absorbing pole sections and heavy-duty door panels at home.

Bottom Line: Sierra Designs made the Alpha 3 Convertible Tent for true year-round campers.

super tent

we have this tent and we live in AK where summer can be 90f and also snow and wind and rain.. this tent had been put to the test with us and it is awesome, wind, rain, snow !!!!! I just wish they had a larger version of it.. we now have a little boy and this is too small for the 3 of us and bags we need inside for him...
I am sadly purchasing an other "bigger" tent but this one is amazing if you are 2 person this is the best for "all weather" and reliable tent.. very easy to build and fold too I manage to put it back in the original back "each" time !!!!

love love it

A true four-season tent

I can't say enough how much I love this tent. I'm not really into winter camping, but wanted a tent versatile enough to keep us warm and dry during the cold shoulder season's and cool enough on those hot summer days. This tent does it all. Sometimes we pitch the fly and the footprint only. Amazing Tent! You really can't go wrong with Sierra Designs, especially the Alpha 3.

...So does it close up completely? I camp in the desert where the dust is awful, and need a tent that has no vents....but would like to be able to open some screened vents at times for a little airflow...

It does close completely, but a bigger concern with dust is when it gets blown underneath the sides of the tent. This tent will do as good a job as any at keeping dust out, and better if you point it into the wind.

rockin tent

I have not put this thing to the true test yet but when we get that fluffy white stuff we all dream about this winter, I will. I took it into the backcountry last week where we got temps in the teens and it had ice on the outside every morning. Vents very well!!! I expect this tent to perform when I need it to and trust me, it will get the oportunity. For the price... Great buy!!!!

mediocre but adequate

leaks in rain around side floor. not good in heavy wind, flaps around. good space, good venting. clips suck where poles intercept hardly usable. pole tip came out and deformed insert.if you close door and screen for top vent leaving door slightly open, to get out is a big procedure, which is bad at 2am. overall i like it for mild conditions and a full size futon fits in for a summer fun with girlfriend! by: mile high 10-08

Well, if you actually follow the directions, it doesn't leak and flap, It is, after all, a 4 season (think expedition) tent. I've had mine in howling blizzards with no problems, same as other owners. It does well in most conditions without following the directions and tying down the rain fly. You should seal the floor seams, same as with any tent.
