Description

Protect your purty mouth.

Spending all your time and money chasing the wildest whitewater on the planet might be the smartest decision you've ever made―well, at least as long as you wear the Shred Ready Standard Full-Face Kayak Helmet every time you climb in your boat. Despite your mad paddling skills, big creek drops and long slides don't always go as planned. This helmet's jaw protector prepares you for rocky rolls that would otherwise reduce your pearly whites to a jagged assortment resembling a local moonshiner's mouth.
  • ABS molded outer shell and EPP molded liner team up to provide CE-certified impact protection and cushioning that reduces head injuries along rocky rivers
  • H.O.G. 2.0 Occipital Lock allows adjustment for a secure fit that is effective during boulder encounters
  • Nylon straps and stainless steel hardware ensure long-lasting durability without rusting
  • Color-coded fitting pads provide additional comfort

Most bang for your buck

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this helmet when I stepped up my game from class III runs to IV and up. Needed it quickly for a trip, and it arrived 3 days after ordering (huge props to backcountry.com). Helmet is very comfortable to wear for hours, even more so than my half cut. It is a bit of a tight squeeze getting it on and off (watch the ears!), but once on, it's great. I've worn it multiple times, but have not yet had to test how it handles the big blow to the dome. It handles the little scrapes and dings nicely. This is a great full face for the price.

Just fits large head (23.5")

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was worried that this wouldn't fit, but by removing all the interchangeable pads it just fits my 23.5" head. It's a tight squeeze getting it on or off, unless I slacken the back band (Occipital Lock).
Far better fit than my previous WRSI full face - that got returned when the buckle broke mid roll!

Fantastic Whitewater Helmet

This helmet is definitely for smaller noggins. I have a pretty small head (little brain) and I only needed to change out one of the interchangeable pads from the large it comes with to a medium. It now fits like it was made for me. Very solid for the price.

Perfect size

I love this helmet! I am a class five kayaker. I travel all over the west running creeks and multi day trips and I never go without his helmet. A lot of people have complained about this helmet running small, my head measures 23 at its widest and it is one of the most comfortable helmets I have ever owned it is however a little squezz to get off my head? The helmet has great protection and is a great price plus it looks really good.

Way too small

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Don't buy this unless your head is smaller than mine, I measured 60cm and I am nowhere close to being able to put my head into this thing.

really small

Helmet didnt even come close to fitting my head, i do not have the smallest head but at most i would confider it a large in normal helmet sizing. Head circumference is 22 inches.

Is the front face guard removable?

No, it is riveted to the helmet.

Cheaper than going back to the Dentist

I feel that this helmet is a solid full-face, for the price. You could obviously shell out more for a Sweet Rocker or something like that but for me, the Shred Ready does just fine. The fit system is pretty universal, seems like it will fit most heads. It adds that extra level of confidence when I'm paddling, like I have just one less thing to worry about, which is actually really nice. The one gripe I do have is that it pinches the top of my head a little, and can become uncomfortable after its been on for awhile. That being said, I'm still giving it five stars because that seems like more my head's fault than the helmet. But if you are like me and have a bulbous dome, take that into consideration.

Protection is the bottom line!

First, let me say this. Backcountry labels the textured black as "carbon black". They label the carbon black as "carbon deluxe". Item you will receive is true to the images, but not consistant with the labeling of the manufacturer. Don't expect the real carbon/kevlar helmet if you order it.
That being said....My 14 year old daughter wanted to get into the sport of whitewater. I could have gotten a cheaper helmet,(around 35 bucks for the NRS Havoc at a competitor) but it had no face protection. We spent 3 grand getting her pearly whites straight. Even at triple the price, this was a no-brainer. YOU CAN'T PUT A PRICE ON SAFETY!!
We live in West Virginia , and have some of the best whitewater in the country. While this conjures up mental images of toothless moonshiners,we have all of our teeth and want to keep it that way!
This is excellent protection at a fair price. Highly recommended , and a must for creekers.
