Why is the Carbon deluxe so much more?...
Why is the Carbon deluxe so much more? Does it offer any more protection?
I found the answer to my question. The carbon deluxe is actually a whole different shell. They are both the same style, but the Carbon deluxe has a carbon fiber/kevlar shell, while the standard has an ABS shell. Below are links to the manufacturer's website.
Shred Ready Standard Full-Cut Kayak
Mixed first impressions
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I'll write another review when I'm more familiar with this product, but my first impressions are kind of mixed. I switched to this model after trying the WRSI Current. The current was a bit more comfy, but offered less coverage (protection), and ultimately I couldn't get it to fit right. Shred Ready's offering seems like it will do the job, offers plenty of coverage and locks onto my head pretty well. Otherwise I'm still working on the fit. I think I may have to cut the foam fitting pieces and use part of the medium and part of the large to get the thing to fit. With just the large, it slides down over my eyebrows, but with the mediums there are bad pressure points on my temples. Another problem is that the leather straps that attach the HOG system either smash the tops of my ears or dig into the place where a glasses temple would rest. The mesh that touches my forehead is also really scratchy. So far it looks like the bottom line for me is that this is an affordable helmet with good coverage, but it's uncomfortable and difficult to fit.
Keeps the hat rack safe
Have used this for about a year in class III and IV water and have been very impressed. Comfortable fit, color-coded foam padding allows for plenty of adjustability, and the rear head band can really lock the helmet on your dome. Plenty of forehead coverage, visor looks good, keeps the drips off your face. Appreciated the full ear coverage, nice to have the extra protection and does not seem to interfere with hearing or comfort. Overall great comfort and protection at a reasonable price.

I usually wear small to extra small helmets (20-21 inch head circumference). Will this helmet adjust enough to fit me?
