Let it rain.

The Showers Pass Elite 2.1 Jacket gives you all the protection you need to stay dry during rainy commutes or training rides. Made from highly breathable and water blocking eVent 3L fabric, this jacket will fend off the rain and keep you dry no matter how long you're out there.

The Elite 2.1 comes with fully taped seams to make sure not even a drop of water sneaks its way into the jacket, and a drop-tail back design protects from wheel spray. Vents at the chest and back add to the jacket's breathability with additional airflow to keep things cool and reduce chances of overheating. The Elite 2.1 Jacket also includes 360-degree 3M Scotchlite reflective paneling to increase visibility to motorists in low-light conditions.

Great cold weather wind/rainbreaker

Also good for warmer conditions (50's+), due to chest-underarm venting, zipper-open from the bottom, and back vent.

eVent is excellent. It is out-of-patent "naked" Gore Tex (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene), ePTFE, but lacks Gore-Tex's polyurethane treatment to slow skin-oil clogging of the PTFE "pores". Gore's polyurethane coating works, but it also reduces the PTFE pore sizes.

eVent has larger pore sizes, so is more breathable, letting water vapor go from the inside to the outside faster, while sill repealing outside water droplets.

But it does "clog" faster, i.e. you have larger pores to start, but they get smaller faster.

I've used Nikwax Tech wash and post-wash treatment. The two products work.

Kind of expensive. I can't tell you why they work better than a cheaper detergent. Maybe somebody can explain.

Perfect wind and rain jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cannot say enough about this jacket. Very light, great fit - neither too tight nor too loose and I followed the sizing guide (200 lbs, 41" chest, 38" waist measured over my clothing). I usually take XL to XXL(Euro) in jerseys. The Elite Pro was a little snug and lighter but this is just great. Even while riding with wind, this jacket is silent. No flapping sounds from this jacket. Breathes well and so far in 70 degree weather with the pit vents and cuffs opened, it was like I was riding without a jacket. I like that the back vent is covered by a storm flap so when it rains, the vent is open. The only negative is minor in that the back vent cannot be closed like on the Elite Pro but to me having the option to be open in the rain without water getting in is better. Was hoping for a Hi Vis Yellow but it wasn't available so I grabbed this in the red. With the reflective wide stripes and the color, you can easily be seen by everyone. Have worn this on 4:30 AM rides and afternoon rides and everything in between. It cannot be stowed as tight as the ElitePro but it can be bundled small enough to tightly fit a good sized jersey pocket but with all the venting and breath-ability, I could not see a reason one would have to take it off.

Have used it in the rain and works well at keeping me dry.

Very satisfied owner.

Great outer shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Def. paid a bit more than others, but from experience I know that you generally will get back you pay for and I already have enough $100ish gear to know I needed to up the budget if I really wanted a shell that would keep me on the roadie this winter.

Initial impression is that this is a solidly made jacket. It's fully wx proof, and even though I don't do much wet riding it's a nice feature to have anyways. As for the "fitted" claim in the description, I would say that's subjective: by European / pro / high performance demanding cyclist standards the fit is probably more "relaxed". But for the majority like me who don't require nor want a tight race fit, you'll be happy with this. After all, it is sealed to keep rain out while also claiming to be breathable and therefore having some real estate inside is going to be required in order to allow adequate air venting when you starting getting warm. I can attest that you can easily layer under the jacket (I expect to have a wool base and a thermal long sleeve jersey on my worst days, and they'll fit just fine) but the material is solid enough that it isn't going to flap around like flag on a gusty day. For me, controlling sweating is always an issue, and I was drawn and am pleased by the various venting options - lengthy pit/torso zips, dual front zippers means you can open up vertically either direction, adj. hook/loop cuffs and a generous but covered back vent. There's also waist tightening bungy cords on either side and another at the neck, plus hook/loop patches around neck for attaching the hood (sold separately). The cut is as should be - dropped tail for coverage, a bit higher in the front so not in way when in aggressive road cycling position, and long sleeves. Goldenrod color is great - highly visible yet fashionable compared to "trashy" neon yellow.
I'm 6'0, 230 lbs. with broad shoulders and XL fits perfect. XXL was way to big (tried both).

PS - there is some weight on this jacket compared to the pro / high performance jackets out there which may cost similar. At approx. 440g it's not the lightest but far from the heaviest jacket out there. You'd only care about this if you're a high performance pro or a weight weeny!
