Description

It doesn’t get much better.

If the History of Bottom Brackets 101 wasn’t taught in your school, you probably don’t know that Shimano was one of the first to adopt the external bottom bracket. Its Dura-Ace SM-BB9000 Bottom Bracket sits at the top of the line in terms of being serviceable, reliable, and exceptionally durable.

The SM-BB9000 mates with the new Dura-Ace groupset and uses smaller bearings than the previous 7900 version. This results in a decrease in friction, making them roll even smoother. The new seals that have been incorporated result in a 50% reduction in drag without decreasing the protection levels of the bearings.

  • External bottom bracket
  • Compatible with English (68mm) or Italian (70mm) threads

Unanswered Question

I am trying to build a CX bike for commuting and racing a bit in cyclocross. I would want to fit this with a Shimano 105 CX 50 crankset. Does anybody have any idea if it will fit? If not any suggestions?

Will this work with a DA-7900 Crankset on a 2012 Cervelo P3?

Best Answer Responded on

Hello,

Yes this will absolutely work with a shimano dura ace crank on the Cervelo p3. I worked with cervelo for quite some time. I had an S5 personally and it was crazy fast. Good luck and have fun!

Unanswered Question

I am looking to build my first bike (scary prospect). I have a shimano 9000 set available. When I purchase a frame what brackets are compatible. I see bb30s, 86s, 68, and fsa. Which should I get?
Thanks in advance.

If I purchase a 52/36 172.5 Dura Ace 9000 crank would I go for English or Italian? I ride a Felt AR.

What's the difference?

I saw an answer that this BB is compatible with 7800 crankset. Therefore, it is ok to use with 7900 crankset. Please confirm. Thanks.

Yes, That will be fine. The bearings changed to decrease resistance, but the fit and the internal diameter is the same.

I have a FSA MegaEXO BB 70/68, M36x24T Bottom Bracket with 24mm shafts. Will the DuraAce SM-BB9000 replace the FSA?

Responded on

Its possible they could work, but FSA cranks should use FSA BB and Shimano to Shimano. FSA is on the high end of the 24mm tolerances and Shimano is on the low end so usually there are some fit issues.

Is this BB compatible with FSA crankset?

Is this BB compatible with FSA crankset?

Best Answer Responded on

Steve,

The Crank should be compatible with the Shimano BB as most FSA crank shafts are 24mm and Shimano Axles are 24mm so it should fit right up. Just insure you do not have a 30 mm axle shaft which is on BB30 cranks and PF30 cranks. I hope this helps contact me at ececala@backcountry.com if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Enrico

Technically they should work, but thats often not the case.

will this be compatible with an ultegra 6750 crankset? also, it is a better bb than the bbr60/bb6800?

Responded on

Yes this is comparable with the Ultegra 6750 crank. The bearings tend to be better on the top shelf Dura Ace products than the rest of the line. If you have any additional questions, please contact me at jcrocker@backcountry.com.

I currently ride a Dura Ace BB 7400, 70 (Italian) with 113mm spindle. Do I need a longer spindle to ride with the Dura Ace BB9000 BB?

Responded on

the BB9000 is an external bottom bracket, while the BB 7400 was square tapered spindle style bottom bracket. The BB9000 will not be compatible with the 7400 crankset. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. brett@competitivecyclist.com
