5800 Groupset

Shimano’s 105 group has always been a bit of a sleeper in the cycling world. It’s almost every bit as capable as Ultegra, at a significantly lower price point. This is especially true of the new 5800 group you see here. The performance gap between Shimano’s tiers has narrowed considerably, to the point that you’re getting the benefits of new technologies in a slightly heavier package for a lot less money. The new four-arm crankset accepts both the compact chainrings you see in these kits, as well as standard and TT chainrings by using a common BCD, rather than a 110 for compact and a 130 for standard.

This package includes the crankset, shifters, derailleurs, cassette, chain, bottom bracket, and brakes; everything you need to build a bike, except for the wheels and cockpit. The brakes have been massaged to clear 28mm tires easily, and the combo of the compact chainrings and the 11-28t cassette mean that you’ll climb comfortably on even the steepest pitches.
