Sherapa Adventure Gear made the Men's Sardar Shorts to withstand all the abuse you or the environment can dish out during backpacking, hiking, and even multi-day climbing journeys. The Elephant Skin fabric, which has PU added as reinforcement, holds up to abrasion, snags, and bushwhacking, and it dries quickly. Three zippered pockets hold snacks, keys, your multi-tool, sunscreen, and other essentials.
Bottom Line: The Sardar Shorts are thick-skinned, so dish out the abuse.
I just received these shorts today, and am immensely happy with my purchase. I got them to wear during a 4-week trip through central america this december/january, and think they'll serve their purpose excellently. First, a word on sizing. I'm 6'3", 185 lbs, and wear 32x34 Levis, and a 40L suit. I ordered the Large size, and they fit me perfectly--no bunching up around the waist when the belt's tight, and they fall right at my knees. Second, a little about the material--it's stretchy, and not rough, and not too thick or heavy like some other 'heavy duty' shorts. Third, the pockets--there are 6, and all have zippers that instill confidence--they slide easily, and are neither so small that they seem fragile, or so thick that they'll just be a nuisance. In all, I highly recommend these shorts.
Good question. As this model is from two years ago, backcountry.com is no longer selling them, and I'm not sure that Sherpa Adventure Gear is still making the Sardar/Sirdar shorts (or any shorts, other than the Sheetal convertible pant) you may have some difficulty. If it is real important to you, you may be able to google them and find someone who still has them. Otherwise, you'd probably be better off just browsing the Men's Hiking and Climbing short area on backcountry.com to find another brand.
Just bought a pair for a friend who has been trying to purloin mine for years. The shorts are comfortable and stretch on long hikes and scrambles also dry off very fast after wading swimming etc. Very hard to rip and abuse. P.

How long is the inseam on this short? (Or where do they fall on the leg?)Also, I have a 30 inch waist - I see that the sizes are a little quirky...any recommendations?
These are one of the most comfortable shorts I have ever owned. Very durable and dries quickly. Be careful about what size you order though. I am usually a M or L and I needed a XL for these shorts. I am 5'10" and 180lbs. I would highly recommend buying them.
