Get the best of the hard and softshell worlds with the Sherpa Adventure Gear Men’s Lungta Hybrid Jacket. Stretchy and weatherproof, this rugged jacket stands in defiance of nasty weather. Ideal for any alpine activities, the Lungta’s lightweight and mobile stature makes it a great companion when hiking, climbing, or skiing. Sherpa designer’s included an adjustable hood that will fit over your helmet so you don’t have to face the rain unprotected. Waterproof zippers top off the seam-taped barrier against invading moisture and underarm vents allow you to release extra heat when needed.
I'm 6'1 240 lbs with a weightlifter build and I picked up the XXL. The chest fits perfect for me which is 48" around and the shoulders line up at about 55" around. The arms are long enough and I'm able to stick arms out and above my head without sleeves riding up, but not quite wide enough for 17" I can get it on, but if I wear a fleece under I have limited mobility.
I'm not on the up and up with shells and the tech behind them, but at 36 bucks you can't beat the value. I will post more information at a later time.
Glad I got an XL, a large would have been too 'athletic' for skiing. I'm 6'2" and 195 lbs. Sleeve length is spot-on, the waist is a bit shorter than normal ski jacket/shell designs. i like it for weight and style. The green is sick!!! Not for deep powder days with short waist and no powder skirt. I have been using hyVent which is very light and thin, I think Sherpa has a winner with this construction. Bring on the trees!!! Let's see if it holds up...........
Does anyone have a more detailed photo of the pit vents? from the main picture I cant really see the zipper or where they are in relation to the underarm
Just got mine delivered after stealing it from SAC for $70. The pit vents actually stop at the armpit, i.e. they don't extend up to the elbow, but seem to run lower than most other jackets I have (Precip and an old Mntn Hardware 3-in-1 main ski jacket).
I'm 5-9 180 lbs pretty athletic and the L fits perfect. It could not be lighter and the Subji Green is nasty (in a good way). I plan on testing this out Sunday in the Hurricane here in NY.

This jacket is a pretty basic shell. very good wind blockage and good waterproofing, but the durability of the fabric comes into question for me when i read that its recommended for skiing. This is an awesome shell for wet days and perfect for spring/fall hiking season, mostly cause it packs down well and can handle wet weather with ease. It fits a bit large around the trunk leaving a good amount of room for insulating layers. I got it on steepandcheap for around 80, and for the money there is not a better deal out there. This jacket could be a good go to for warmer ski days, but in heavy powder or rain go for something with a skirt
I just wore this jacket for the first time today after getting my order in from Steep and Cheap. Worked great on a hike around the neighborhood with my dog in the rain. The hood was giant on my helmetless head, and when I went to pull the drawcord to adjust it... it snapped right off in my hand! First day FAIL. I am hoping to return it for a new one, because you can't beat the deal, and the rest of the jacket is stellar.
I saw this jacket on SaC and was really excited about it. I had been looking for a shell like this for a long time, but when I go it, it did not fit in the slightest. I am a pretty skinny dude (6'1" 165) and the arms were actually long enough, but the chest was so much larger than I could really wear. I really slimmer people to find a way to test this jacket before buying.
As a brand Sherpa is relatively unknown to the masses, so I was a bit hesitant to pick one of these up when I saw it on sale at SAC. But the value equation was good enough to get it and see about saving wear on my Marmot GoreTex Pro shell (save that for the harsh/extreme stuff on peak or in the deep woods) when I just step out for hikes and biking near my home. The Lungta is now truly my everyday wear shell during the winter/spring months.
Very good structure/construction, very windproof, good waterproofing, and excellent value. Fit is good (at 6' and 210 lbs (46 chest) the XL is a perfect for me) - slender but allows layering underneath.
Worn for over a year now with virtually no complaints at all except the Velcro cuff adjuster on the sleeve is softening the fabric and in turn reducing its water resistance. However, Sherpa support says not a problem to repair under their lifetime warranty if the product fails prematurely. Can't beat that... Pit zips are easily confused with actual pockets - so that can be annoying. Just pay attention and make sure you are actually placing whatever in your pocket and not dropping out to the ground.
I can also say I've never owned a jacket that garners as many compliments as this one does. People really like it and the color (Subji Green) is pretty distinctive.
Liked it enough to buy another one (actually - two more, bought one for my wife and a spare for me). Bought all of them via SAC and at that price this jacket is phenomenal. A great piece of gear.
Just used this shell for skiing over the last 2 days, one day in low to mid teen temps, one day in very windy mid 20's temps. It held up splendidly, completely wind-proof yet breathable. I've used a 2 piece Columbia in the past that is quite bulky,non-technical, and old. Sure it was warm, and cutting edge 10 years ago, but things have changed. Using this jacket with the Sherpa Jaaro micro-fleece and Under Armour Cold Gear and I've found the perfect combo for skiing cold Wisconsin winters. Yeah! And the shell was quite the bargain at $70 via SAC! Yeah SAC!
