Why We Like The Kayak Cart

Sea to Summit gave its Kayak Cart a stout but lightweight frame that carries up to 154lb and wide wheels with thermoplastic rubber tires that easily roll over sandy beaches. Just slide the stern of your boat onto this cart's pads, secure the webbing retainer strap around the hull, pick up the bow, and start walking. Moving your heavy touring boat just turned into a walk in the park—or portage. The cart can be easily dismantled to fit into the hatch of most seas kayaks, so you don't have to worry about someone walking away with it when you're out on the water.

Sturdy cart for short trip needs.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've owned one cart for 5 years and recently bought a second cart. Overall, I've been happy, but more with my original cart than the new one. The new cart doesn't have the foam glued into place, so they keep moving when the boat is on the cart. Very frustrating. Did a "wo/man-powered weekend" with our kayaks recently, and the wear on the straps is concerning from two days of use, especially on the new cart, since it was the first use. Like, should it wear through to the metal like that? The black straps have transferred black stuff onto the hull of our kayaks, so extra cleaning is now needed there.

Easy install and good quality

Hobie kayak. It has to be over 120-130lbs loaded with gear including a cooler. On mostly smooth surfaces it rolls great. Only issue is hitting a rut or stump will cause the wheels to move out of alignment. But I’m sure this has something to do with my heave load. I’m going to look into mounting a second strap to keep the wheels aligned. Mush easier to install than the Hobie wheels that have forks that have to be aligned through the kayak…requiring you to lift the kayak 3ft in the air. Sometimes this isn’t easy after a long paddle. These wheels are much easier to install. I highly recommend these wheels. Just remember, with a heave load pay attention to ruts and stumps.

Bought a second one

Used on a self support kayak trip on the middle fork of salmon in Idaho. Ran it on the front deck but mounted so the access end was toward the bow. In reverse the angle makes it easy to read a waterproof map in the bungees and did not interfere with strokes. Great for extra jacket, lunch, and small dry box. No need to open the hatches for gear until camp.

Good product

Very happy with this cart. Easy to use, well made and well designed. And it sure makes hauling a heavy kayak from car to launch site a LOT easier. Which means I'll kayak more often!

Tried my new cart. Medium size. Worked well with my tandem whitewater canoe. More energy to paddle. Would highly recommend it.

Perfect deck organizer

No matter how much I cord I use to lash a dry bag to the deck for my snacks, extra layers, and camera, it never seems to stay put and I can never get into it easily. Sea To Summit solved the problem with a versatile, semi-rigid outer that's easy to rig and a dry bag sewn inside.

Easy to deploy and stow

This little cart is great. It goes together quickly and comes apart just as easily. It fits into my rear hatch with no problems. (It does take a lot of space because of the 2 wheels, so if you're packing gear, you may have trouble). I've used it several times on a 600' portage over mostly grassy terrain. After a couple of tries getting the best positioning on the boat (I try to go as close to center, but also catch some deck rigging to run the strap through to give more security), it makes the portage much easier than carrying. The time it took to put unpack, put together, secure, and portage was about the same as the other two people carrying their boats.

Great kayak cart... Larger model needed for over 28" width

Cart works great, particularly on hard surfaces. The larger model is necessary for any kayaks over 28" wide for better stability and to avoid straps rubbing on wheels (Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120-30" and 2019 Hobie Outback-32"). NOTE, strap rubbing can be alleviated by crossing the strap over to opposite side, however strap length may require that you move the cart further back at more narrow part of the kayak (this of course adds to the carry weight on the front)

Great company response.

Had problems with my large cart. When brought to company' s attention they responded immediately! I am impressed with the results. On this basis alone I would recommend them. And when the cart did work it worked well . Problems seem to be rectified.
