    Crash confidently.

The next time you find yourself staring up at the sky and wondering how you got there, you can take solace knowing that a dependable In-Mold polycarbonate shell is only the first layer of defense against ill-intentioned rocks and roots that Scott built in to its Stego Helmet. Now an industry standard, this construction method makes for lighter helmets, with a shell fused to an inner layer of foam cushioning without any gaps.

Then, you'll remember that Scott sets the Stego apart from its more affordable helmets with the inclusion of the relatively new Multi Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS). This refers to a bit of Swedish technology added to the helmet in the form of a thin inner layer that rotates slightly upon impact to absorb the brain-damaging "sloshing" energy created in certain crashes.

Finally, the back of your head will be cushioned as you're lying on the ground. Scott shaped the Stego's shell to extend below your ears in the rear to meet the recommendations of new research on areas of vulnerability during crashes. You'll get all of that protection, without sacrificing expected features like extensive venting, one-handed adjustability, and a removable visor — the last of which won't be any help if you're looking directly up at the sun.

    Ample coverage and ventilation

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

The Stego offers a minimalist appearance with well thought out adjustability and ventilation to keep your head from turning into a sauna. It also offers increased coverage on the sides and back of the riders head to ensure proper protection. I have been riding the Scott Stego for the past three seasons and have yet to find better performance and comfortability for the price.

Looks great, fits okay, but ...

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I have to say the helmet looks great (even on me)! It even fits okay for my size head... However, it has a plastic strap on each side which is just above my ears (you can see it if you zoom in to the picture). The strap touches my ear if you move the helmet from side to side. The strap is fairly sharp, and if the helmet shifts sideways from a fall, it will likely cut into my ear... If they could tuck the strap just a little further up into the helmet, I'd have been okay with it. I'll also add that, even though the padding is a little spartan, the helmet wasn't uncomfortable to me. It's unfortunate that the strap is too low, or my ears are too high on my head... :-)

    Great Look / bad fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I looked the entire internet over a billion times to finally go ahead and purchase this helmet. The look is great not too camo warrior-ish. The build seems amazing. What is not correct is the size. I fit in a 21 inch helmet. I ordered the size of small which is 20-21.75 inches. This helmet did not fit me in the least. Very disappointed especially because I was stuck with the return shipping. I don't know how to accurately rate this, but I can not give 4 or 5 stars. Maybe the rating is unfair, maybe the sizing is unfair.
