    Details

Sci'Con's saddle bags are notable for their retention systems. No Velcro straps. The design has been updated to the new Roller 2 mounting system. If you recall the original Roller System (now Roller 1), you start with a plastic cleat that secures to your seat rails with the twist of a knob. Then you install the bag by matching the cleat with the opening in the binding mount. And give it a 1/4 turn. The Roller 2 takes that same idea and adds two tire levers to the design. There's one mount for a tire lever outside the bag, and a mount for a tire lever inside the bag. To make sure the lever slots work, Sci'Con includes the levers. Building the two levers into the design frees up space in the bag, so you can fit more into it.

We see the Hippo as holding one or two tubes, a few CO2 cartridges, an inflator, a multi-tool, and some bits and pieces.

The bag has a 180-degree zipper around the mouth. There's a single cavity inside. There are two reflective stripes that go from one side of the bag to the other. There's also a reflective design on the Cordura side panels. The rear of the bag has a rubber tab that can fit some small blinky-lights.

Taking a ruler to the Sci'Con Hippo 550 Roller 2 saddlebag, it measures 12x7x9cm. The bag capacity is 550 cubic centimeters (33.56 cubic inches). It is Black.

    Excellent Bag

After reading several reviews I decided to give this bag a try. For me it is the perfect size and has some really nice features. The ability to detach the bag quickly along with the built in tire levers makes the set up super convenient. I purchased this bag a little over a year ago and have about 4500 miles of use on the product so far with no issues.

      Weak attachement

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

One of the plastic levers of the attachment system broke after a few hundred miles. Would stay away from the product, but also from the brand in general as all their bags seem to share the same defective attachment system.

Wears out too soon! Avoid this one.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this less than a year ago and have about 5000 miles on it. Attachment with quick release idea is great but execution is poor. I like the built in levers, but doesn't do you much good when the attachment wore out and the top lever fell out during a ride and gets lost.

      Attachment wears out

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've put a little over 2 years and 16,000 miles on this bag. For the most part it has been great: I love the ability to twist off the bag when I need to access it and the included bike levers are surprisingly my favorite pair.

Unfortunately over time the attachments have become worn. First the outside tire lever mount became too loose and I had to move it inside the main compartment, then the ratchet nubs on the twist-lock itself became worn and the bag began coming loose until it eventually fell off during a ride.

Overall it's a very convenient bag so long as you keep an eye on its wear and replace it soon enough. I'll be trying a different type of bag next time in search of the perfect fit.
