Description

Feel the Zen and check off some new trails.

Find your happy place somewhere between your car and the crags when you put on the lightweight Scarpa Women’s Zen Approach Shoe for your climbing-filled Saturdays. For the approach or a care-free day of exploration, the Zen’s reinforced arch, P-Flex plate, and Vibram Spyder outsole turn your foot into a sticky, stable platform that craves trail. A dual-density molded EVA midsole cushions the uneven terrain and a suede upper beads away dew drops while also looking great when exploring Main Street. The rubber tread grips boulders as you belay your partner and the rubber toe rand ensures the Zen lasts longer than your climbing season.

A coupla years ago, I bought a pair Scarpa's Fuschia Mojito's from backcountry, com and I just LOVE THEM!!! Well, the same can be said for the Women's Zen that I just purchased. Just as I did with the Mojito's, when my Women's Zen arrived, I put them on and they were instantly comfortable and solid/secure-feeling. And they continue to be so. That's a sure sign of a quality shoemaker and their product. Both Scarpa's are my favorite pair of shoes for those days when I know I'm going to be walking a lot and/or on my feet all day, but in lieu of wearing running sneakers, want a more metropolitan/sophisticated-looking walking shoe. And they get compliments a plenty, let me tell ya!
And can I once again say how much I appreciate backcountry.com? Both of my Scarpa's were purchased from them and why? Because backcountry.com offered both the Mojito and the Zen for less then the major online shoe companies! AND their shipping is so, so FAST!

So, when it comes to my future Scarpa shoe shopping, I will definitely shop at backcountry.com!

I want to share my experience with these shoes, as they are so high quality and versatile, a combination that's tough to nail. The craftsmanship of these shoes is highly evident and the sole/rand combination do combine to make this shoe a true approach shoe. These shoes also carry just the perfect amount of stiffness as well, for scrambling or even climbing very low-angle stuff. They have enough structure and support built in to carry a pack too. I have to wear custom insoles, and I was happy to realize that I could swap those into these shoes and still have a great fit and not have the addition of the insoles negatively affect the performance of these shoes. I've worn them for long hikes of 14ers and they work exceptionally well, and I've also worn them to set up top ropes. I also have to note that they are truly versatile even with all of this performance (I would not wear them trail running, but for hiking, they are fine). I don't have a particularly narrow or wide foot, and they fit very well.

I so wanted to love these shoes! I usually wear 5.10's for approach shoes, but I was looking for something more durable and comfortable for the true "approach" bit. The scarpa zen's are definitely good looking and they seem very robust and well made, but the toe box was simply too tight no matter how much I played with the lacing. If you're cursed with my feet (very wide at the toes and very narrow at the heel), you might have a similar problem.

These Scarpas are nearing four years old and going strong. They have really gone the distance. They are a nice combo of snug fit for scrambling yet comfy enough for longer approaches. The rubber could be stickier, but then I think I would have worn them out a couple years ago if that were the case. Worth the $$

No, this shoe is not waterproof. You should take a look at the Mystic which is the waterproof version of the Zen.
