Give your feet what they need and quench your mileage lust with the lightweight Scarpa Epic Hiking Shoe. Your favorite trail gets faster and easier with the dual-density EVA midsole under your heel and forefoot, and a Trail Plate lets the Epic flex how you want it over the changing terrain. Your strides take you over mud, sand, and rocks with no slips because of the Trail-Speed outsole\222s sticky rubber. A tough rubber toe rand holds up to your clumsy stump collisions and recycled upper materials help add pep to your step.
Bottom Line: Hike in a shoe that doesn't just cover your foot--it helps you go faster and longer.
These bad boys have been underfoot for a year now and I'm still loving them. Perfect all around trail run/approach/hike shoe. Good fit for my narrow feet. I've put them through the ringer on some really long days and they are still holding up well. Highly recommended.
This is a great all-around hiking shoe. Right out of the box I did a 25 mile trek to Deadhorse Lake in the Uintas, and they felt just fine... only a small blister on my left heel, which I thought was pretty damn good considering they hadn't been worn.
They're far from waterproof, but easy to clean. I've worn them for everything from the two-day trip up Kings Peak to short trail runs. Not the best breathers, but I like their weight and stability.
So I bought the raptor, it turns out that despite having the same sole as the epic it is not as stiff as the epic. This is due to a stiffer midsole in the epic than the raptor. The Epic and raptor also do not have the same rubber in the outsole, the epic rubber is stiffer. I like the Raptor, but I would prefer the Epic and will probably buy a pair well before the Raptor's wear out.

These are great shoes. Had them for about two months now, and they are a lot of fun to wear. I honestly don't use them for trail running, because they are really not that light (the Pearl Izumi peak XC is my benchmark for a lightweight trail shoe, and a size 10 pair weighs ~510g compared to this at 772g) When I am not wearing a pack or running in loose technical rock, this shoe is overkill, but for bagging talus peaks or a multi-night backpack, these shoes do very well, the scarpa tread even hold their own on the rock! If you are really looking for a lightweight minimalist trail running shoe, I would look at another pair of shoes, but if you want a good shoe that will take you anywhere you want to go in the mountains while retaining reasonable weight and good stability, this would be my top choice.
I have had these for 6 months and have worn them extensively when I'm not working. Running across the desert they are light and cool, and do a decent job of keeping sand out. Scrambling up rock they stick like glue. Almost don't change into climbing shoes sometimes. They are supportive with light to medium loads around 20-30 lbs. I would recommend them for anyone looking for a good approach shoe with a mid to narrower foot profile. Enjoy!
this is a cool approach shoe. Extremely light with an aggressive sticky sole. 4 instead of 5 because not as supportive or protective as a beefier shoe would be, but that's the trade off for a super light agile shoe. Fit my narrow foot extremely well but the lacing will allow a range of fitting possibilities.
Most guys use trail running shoes for Ultralight backpacking, I have flat and narrow feet so the running shoes don't work. These shoes fit my orthotics very well and have plenty of room in the toe box, even when wearing the woolies. I have even done some bouldering in them. Overall, nice shoes. Would be nice if they were Gore-Tex, but then they'd be $50 more wouldn't they?
I seem to only make it to the opinion boards when I find an item that is REALLY GREAT! These fit perfect right out of the box, usually I spend a week trying to find an insert to make shoes fit properly for me. The sticky sole grips well even on wet surfaces (where sticky rubber doesn't usually do well). So far these have handled several trail runs and show no signs of wear. If these don't hold up over time I will definitely return to the boards and downgrade my rating. I have already recommended this trail shoe to several friends.
This is my first trail running shoe, so take it for what it's worth. Very comfortable and seems to flex in the right places. These should be really nice once there fully broken in.
