these are a great approach shoe that performs well. The super-tacky soles don't disappoint on rock and scrabble. The environment that was not suited for this shoe is on snow/ice - as these soles apparently become equivalent your slickest dress shoe sole - advise to not wearing these if you plan to wear outside in SLC valley this winter....having said that though, they are rock specific and perform excellently in that environment only.

I love everything about these shoes except that the ankle is cut a little high on the outside edge.

I 'm usually somewhere between a 6 1/2 or 7 in shoes. I went with the 7 in these so I can wear them with thicker socks as the weather becomes cooler. I wore these shoes for almost two weeks straight during a hiking/climbing trip and they worked wonderfully. The traction on the bottom is amazing; you can practically walk down a vertical wall without slipping! They're great for just bouldering around as well. The toe box is stiff, which is great, because I tend to bump my toes pretty often when I hike. These don't really stretch and they definitely aren't water proof (I didn't expect them to be), but all in all, these are a fantastic shoe.

How is the sizing on these? I am told they run a size large?

I found these to be true to size - i wear a size 8, and bought the size 8. they fit perfect with a thin hiking sock. However, if you prefer a thicker (winter-like) sock, you might consider sizing up

I'm looking for a shoe to use canyoneering but also for other hikes as well. Do you think these will be ruined by walking in knee deep water?

Probably. If I were you, I would just walk around with them on land, but for water take them off and go barefoot. And those "waterproof" shoes tend to stink after they've been in water for more than a few seconds.

Hi Tay,
I think getting these shoes wet will definitely change the nature of the upper material (suede). I've found when leather gets wet it typically gets very stiff and the shoe becomes pretty uncomfortable.

For canyoneering I recommend the Five Ten Canyoneers or Savants. Both have Five Ten Stealth rubber soles that stick better than any other approach shoe I've worn, and stick well on wet rock. I particularly like the Savants because the upper is a more ventilated mesh that's light and dries quickly.

Good luck finding a good shoe for canyons!

Ordered these on an impulsive whim.
Was upset at first, because the toe box was very uncomfortable, and rubbed against the top of my foot.
A few wears later, and these are some of my favorite shoes!

They broke in nicely after about 3 days of use, and offer excellent support. The heavy-duty sole provides stellar traction for us clumsy gals. I've used these in wet/wild conditions and didn't have any slippage, which is pretty unusual for me, as I'm not the most surefooted creature. Overall very pleased with this purchase. Construction appears solid, and hope to have these for many years to come.

I just used these on a backpacking/day hike to climb to an 11,000 foot peak. We were scrambling along a knife edge ridge, sometimes snow-covered. I was thrilled with the performance and tackiness of this shoe. My partner was slip-sliding all over the place in his hiking shoes, and I was hopping about like a baby mountain goat. These things REALLY stick. Still stoked on this awesome shoe!
