Perfect, almost barefoot, style shoe

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have switched most of my shoes over to zero-drop. I took about 3 months getting used to walking in zero-drop shoes, and was having trouble switching my running over. These shoes have a 4mm drop from heel to toe, and the little bit of extra cushion was all I needed to complete my transition.

I run about 3 to 5 miles, three times a week in these shoes. I have run a couple of 5K events in them. They are awesome! I really like how easy it is to maintain form while running in them. The lacing system is quick and my foot always feels secure.

I highly recommend these shoes!

Hey Joe,

What are some zero-drop shoes that I can wear in a business casual environment? Other than the vivobarefoot line and a few of the now discontinued Patagonia shoes, I'm having a hard time finding something decent. Would love to know if you've discovered something better!

I wear the Merrell Ascend Glove or Trail Glove to work most days. They are a true zero-drop. I like the Ascend glove in the winter, as they are GoreTex and have a little thicker sole. The Trail Glove feel more minimalist, which I appreciate in the summer and nice days in the spring and fall.

Overall good fit

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought this shoe as a gift for my brother for finishing his first Ironman race! He was a big fan of the Kinvara 4 and wanted to compare the 4 with the 5. Overall a good fit, however new lacing pattern causes the show to fit too tightly on bridge of foot.
