Heckler Mountain Bike - X9 AM Build Kit

The Santa Cruz Heckler Mountain Bike with X9 AM build kit offers more bank-for-the-buck than midget wrestling. Six inches of reliable, and proven single-pivot travel make this chassis ready to bring the ruckus on the most gnarly mountain adventures. A stiff rear triangle matched up to the high volume Fox rear shock makes the Heckler more forgiving than a Catholic Priest. With a choice parts mix of Sram, Avid, and Shimano this bike will be ready and willing to take on any trail situations with the power and grace of a professional wrestler.

  • All-mountain geometry and 150mm of single pivot travel keeps the Heckler frame composed and relaxed through the worst a mountain can offer
  • Fox Float RLC provides a high performance five and a half inches of travel, and has five adjustable features that keep the Heckler versatile
  • Fox Float R High Volume rear shock, when compared to a standard float, provides a more linear spring rate that gives its travel a nice bottomless ride
  • Avid Elixir CR brakes with185mm front rotor help you drop the anchor when things get too hairy
  • Years of all-mountain refinement backed by Santa Cruz’s impeccable build quality

Bottom Line: A classic like the full nelson, the Heckler is ready to take an aggressive mountain and slam it to the mat.

RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!

One of MBs favorite bikes of all time, what else needs to be said! Great all mountain XC bike, that handles the DH pretty well also, around 28 lbs, sweet, fast and a great climber. One of my favorite parts of the bike is the simple single pivot design you'll save loads on the cost of maintenance since there is only one pivot. I'm 5.9, 160 and the medium gives me plenty of stand over room and soaks up pounding bumps like a dirt bike chassis. This bike sets into corners much like a motorcycle also, super fun!! You will not need to change any components from this simple-to-set-up build kit, get one!

2 Questions: 1) What are the big differences between the two

2 Questions:
1) What are the big differences between the two build kits (X9 and the lower one), seems to shed 2 lbs.
2) How many days to ship to Salt Lake City?
-thanks

The fork, wheels, and brakes are probably the biggest difference makers. The fork is a fox which is awesome and nicer and the wheels are better and probably lighter and the brakes are probably twice as good as there other juicy 5's and alot lighter. Most of the other components are about the same. They may be different brands like shimano and sram but they are pretty much the same. The front derailleur and the shifters are the only other real difference and they are a step up on the better build. Also one other thing the seat post in this build is a thompson and you can't beat a thompson seat post. Hope that helps.

Best Bike I've ever owned

By: Backcountry.com Employee
July 23, 2010

Now that I've had this bike for a year, I can honestly say this is the best bike I've ever owned. It's great in all conditions and has easily taken all of the abuse I can throw at it.

Out of the box, what's the assembly status on this bike?

Out of the box, what's the assembly status on this bike? Is it as if it were shipped from Santa Cruz, meaning all you need to do is install the fork, adjust cables and you're good? Or, do I have to install the headset, bottom-bracket, derailleurs, run cables, etc.?

Heckler

This bike kicks ass. Climb like a champ and descends better than a lot of bigger free-ride bikes. It is a solid choice for an all around do everything set up.

Dry Creek, SLC, Utah

By: Backcountry.com Employee
April 27, 2009

This bike has been tested in Mueller Canyon and Dry Creek over its first week in my hands outside of SLC. Have to say, it does climb really well and chews up rocks, stumps, mud, roots and anything else you throw in front of it and spits them out with 5.5 in and 6 in on the rear shock for a nice freeride bike. I have it mounted with Crank Bros 5050 XX Pedal and it makes for a bomber freeride setup. Probably not the lightest bike out there, but it still does well for XC use and bombing the downhill sections of a long ride. Well worth the coin! Pick yours up when this comes back into stock...

Climbs/Descends Great

By: Backcountry.com Employee

I was surprised that with a single pivot design the bike barely bobs when climbing. It takes 3 foot drops easily and was easy to dial in the suspension. Make sure you put some tape over spots where the cables sit to prevent cable rub. Very happy with this purchase.

Great All Mountain Bike

By: Backcountry.com Employee
May 1, 2009

Love the Santa Cruz Heckler. This bike does it all. Climbs as well as my 4 inch travel cross country bike and takes the downhill like it's no big deal. I just got this bike a week ago and made a quick trip to Southern Utah. This bike will take anything you can throw at it. I love skiing but now I can't wait for the snow to melt.
