Description

Crack open big-wheel fun.

Whether you’re attacking an off-road century, lining up for a local XC race, or sneaking in a ride during the workday, Santa Cruz’s Tallboy Mountain Bike—with the RXC build kit—will keep a dusty grin plastered to your face. A stiff and shapely carbon chassis loves to slice through singletrack ribbons and über-technical terrain. Santa Cruz dialed its efficient second-generation VPP suspension to work with momentum-carrying 29-inch saucers, which allows the Tallboy to consume miles like a cracked-out diesel trucker with a sugar-based cocktail and a bucket of chicken riding shotgun.

  • 100mm RockShox Reba SL with thru-axle for steering precision
  • Highly adjustable and powerful Avid Elixir 5 brakes provides massive stopping power
  • Santa Cruz hand-built wheelset for reliable performance
  • Shimano XT/Truvativ drivetrain for fast and accurate shifts
  • Suspension pivot grease ports for easy maintenance
  • Cable stops for a gravity dropper

I am 6'1". Is it better to be on the extreme high end for one size or the extreme low end for the next size up?
My weight is 185.

Bob I am also 6'1 and I had a large tallboy but it was too small for me to ride with a strait post. I went with a laid back post for a while until I was able to get my hands on an XL tallboy. The XL fits me a lot better with a strait post. Since Tallboy comes in XXL I think they mad all the sizes a bit on the small side. I recommend an XL for you. Good luck

I just had a tallboy size large built and I am 6' barely. I should have listened to the Santa Cruz site, as a medium is a much better fit for me. Lesson, if your coming off a 26inch, be careful on sizing.

Santa Cruz "Tallboy" RXC build Kit

Wow! Best way to describe this bike. Bike arrived within one week of placing order, in perfect shape! Have about 10 hours of riding on it now and the biggest thing I've noticed is how smooth it tracks. It has made all the trails where I ride new again, I'm able to take new lines (more technical) that I didn't have the confidence or had crashed on before with my 26"
MTB riding for over 20 yrs. and I feel like a kid again, "Can't wait to get home from work and go for ride"

My dream bike...

It took a while to find the Santa Cruz Tallboy in the right size and preferred color. I finally found it on "Huck n Roll." Boy, was this the right move... and at a bit of a discount. I upgraded some of the components as I was originally planning to build the bike from scratch and had been stockpiling nifty parts. But the RXC build was too good a deal to pass up. So with a little part upgrade here and there, I completed the bike with pedals for right under 27 pounds. It rides and handles like a dream. It looks stealthy (obviously I purchased the grey/black frame). I cannot wait until race season begins in Wisconsin. My only complaint is that my wife is a bit hesitant to let me hang it in the living room. But I just can't bear to keep my new baby in the dark basement...

Hey, just wondering what parts you upgraded from the stock RXC kit to get your bike under 27 lbs? I am buying one and would like to do the same. thanks

XLs can be ordered if they're available from Santa Cruz. Have you had an opportunity to ride this puppy? Are you confident you're really an XL?

Best 29er for 2010

Best 29er for 2010

This is hands-down the best 29er coming out for 2010. I rode this bike at Interbike and was thoroughly impressed with its overall capabilities. It climbs well and descends with the best of them. If you've been a 29er fence-sitter, this bike will kick your butt off that fence in a jiffy!

what is the size of your frame and what does it weigh? Thanks, Steve F.

Sorry for the delay. The test bike I rode was a size Large. I'm 5'11" and it seemed to fit me just fine as the 24" top-tube is right on the border of what I like. The Medium would be too small at 23" TT.
