Crack open a Tallboy

If you haven't ridden a Santa Cruz Tallboy you don't know what you are missing, so just disregard the following content. The Tallboy's revolutionary design pairs Santa Cruz Virtual Pivot Point technology with 29in hoops to create a super-stable and responsive ride with enough sex-appeal to make you blush. The full-Shimano XT group offers one of the smoothest-running drivetrains available, while the Fox front and rear squish tackles more chatter than your aunt Carol at Thanksgiving. Shimano XT calipers making stopping quickly and smoothly a reality, with modulation that won't leave you skidding as you when you simple caress the levers. So what are you waiting for? Climb aboard one of the most talked about whips to hit the market this year, just don't be surprised when lust comes a knocking—just be sure to ask the spouse first.

  • Maxxis Crossmark 2.1 tires provide plenty of bite in wet or dry conditions
  • Kashima-coated Fox suspension resists corrosion and wear while offering the most responsive squish in the business
  • Shimano XT drivetrain and shifters offer crisp shifting even under load
  • 29in Mavic TN17 wheels roll over just about anything, and twice as easy as your old 26er

What Fun!

So I went out on my first ride on my new Tallboy yesterday afternoon. I have been riding a Heckler for the past six years and have loved it. I was really worried about the Tallboy and reluctant to try something new worrying that it would not be as much fun. The trail I ride is about a 11 mile single track loop with 1500 ft. of climbing. Lots of roots, rocks and hills.
I can only say that after riding my new Tallboy, I was smiling like a kid on Christmas morning. Did not think mountain biking could get any more fun but the Tallboy had me smiling after the first mile. It seemed to roll over everything effortlessly and made me feel like I was cheating somehow. My speed went from a 7-8 MPH pace to a 10 MPH pace on the first ride! I have not riden this loop that fast in ten years!
The Tallboy handles extreemly well and the suspension is supurb while keeping the weight down. The only changes I had to make was that the seatpost that came with it was too short so I put on my Thomson 410mm post with the saddle from my Heckler. I also went into a higher bar, Easton EA70 monkeybar. I expect to make changes on a pre-built bike so this was not a big deal to me. The price is very good compared to shops in my area especially when you factor in no tax and no shipping charges.
I highly recommend the Tallboy, what a fun ride!
