5010 Carbon CC X01 Complete Mountain Bike - 2015

The Santa Cruz 5010 balances between the 26er and 29er platforms by rolling on 27.5-inch wheels. Santa Cruz then adds in 125mm of rear travel via its VPP, dual-pivot system. With this dual system, the upper pivot rotates as the bike compresses downward toward its sag point. Then the lower pivot rotates to move the rear wheel backward. In doing this the bike is effectively lengthened and thereby moves out of the way of impacts as well as giving you more control. The pivots are collet-style hardware for easy, at home, serviceability. The rear shock is FOX’s "Climb-, Trail-, and Descend-mode" CTD shock with Kashima coating.

The suspension is embraced by Santa Cruz’s “CC” carbon frameset. In addition to using a higher grade carbon that allows them to use less material for a lighter final product, the CC also molds the front and rear triangles as whole pieces. This process ensures a stronger frame because the carbon fibers are not interrupted by joints. Additionally, each piece is molded in such a manner that the inside and outside of the tubing is pressed while in the mold. This compacts the layers and removes any excess resin and air pockets. If you were to saw your bike in half, which we don’t recommend, you’d notice that the insides of the tubes are as smooth as the outsides. The 5010’s frame includes oversized 15mm collet-style hardware and a 12x142mm thru-axle in the rear.
