Just got a pair of Line Prophet 100's. I'm 5'10", 195 , fairly aggressive skier - ( no cliff hucking for me) like to charge hard on the groomers & play around in the trees. Will the z12 ti be enough binding for me? I really don't want to worry about a binding releasing on me unless I want it to.
I have '07 Prophet 90s and you and I are nearly exactly the same proportions ht/wt-wise. I have Sal Z12 Ti in mine, with DIN set to 8 and have never had an issue...light, great bindings that get it done and don't make a fuss. You'll be happy with them.
Your recommended din will be under ten, so even if you crank it up a bit this binding should work great. I've never had an issue with Salomon's pre-releasing.

I won some skis. they are 180cm 125/92.5/119. I'm looking for a good deal on a binding. The Salomon Z12 seems like a good choice. Will it fit this ski with a ski brake? I weigh about 230 will the DIN on this binding work for me. I prefer Salomon bindings.
I'm looking for an alpine binding for my new 181 Icelantic Nomads. I know the Nomad is made for AT, but I have another dialed AT setup already and loved these as an in bounds, do everything ski when I demo'd them. I have been on Freerides for the last 5 seasons and liked them for all around touring and skiing capability, but not for laying down an edge on ice, at speed, or in other must make situations when edge control is a necessity. I'm looking for a lightweight non-touring binding with good reliable release. I'm 5 foot 10, 175 lbs and usually run an 11 DIN. A local shop I trust recommended the Z12, but I'm open to other suggestions. Thanks in advance
If your going to run your din at 11, I would recommend getting a binding with a din higher than 10. I would look at the Look PX14/rossi axial2 140, Solomon s914 or the Maker Jester. You will add A little weight with the higher din bindings but it will function better if you fall somewhere in the middle of the din capability.
Rode these hard last year, and they seem to be an improvement over the S912 series. Much better power transfer to the ski edge, but no ramp (delta) can be an issue.
I just bought the K2 PayBack skis...wondering what type of binding would be good for these? Also what does 90mm or 100mm refer to? Width of ski? Help! Thanks!
Yes the Z12 is an excellent binding for this type of all mountain ski. The din (from 4 to 12) gives you a great amplitude of tuning and works for every type of skier from beginner to advanced. Regarding the width, the 90 or 100 refers to the width of the ski underfoot. This information is necessary to make the brake choice, if too narrow, it wouldn't fit. For the Payback, this measurement is 92mm, so I recommend you to take the 100mm brake with the Salomon Z12 bindings.
Definitely! Lightweight and millimetric edge to edge power transmission. With the Z12 Ti, you'll make the most of the Mantra's. Especially in poor snow conditions where the balance transfer is critical
The DIN might a bit low...but that really depends on your weight and how hard you charge. Also make sure you can get brakes that are wide enough to fit the JJs since they are a little wider than the average ski.
The ideal is +/- 1.5 size. Don't forget that a too wide adjustment in length, such as the one you find on rental bindings very often changes your balance on the ski
Any recommendations for a binding for new Salomon Lord Skis? I'm 5'7" 150 lbs very aggressive skier (Class III if you go by the ratings from when I was a kid, which makes me feel old to say that) - I'm mostly skiing out west, 10% on groomers 30% back country, 30% powder, and 10% in the park. I've recently gone through 2 pairs of Marker 11.0 Ti bindings in as many years (the plastic would crack and shatter, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone pushing the limits) and I'm looking for something that will last a little longer than that. Any suggestions?
This Salomon binding would be a great fit for you and your needs. If you are looking at touring in the backcountry, and need the flexibility of a free heel mechanism, then another binding would be better. But, if you are looking to lock it down with a light, safe, strong/sturdy and reliable binding- the Salomon Z12 is a great choice.
I highly recommend the Marker Jester binding. It has proven to be very reliable and durable over time. I have had the same Jesters since the 07/08 season (I probably have 200+ days of park skiing on these), and they have held up well and feel great every time I step in.
Rode these hard last year, and they seem to be an improvement over the S912 series. Much better power transfer to the ski edge, but no ramp (delta) can more...
