It's easy to connect your boots to your skis; you can glue them together, say, or use a whole roll of duct tape. If you prefer reliable release, bomber retention, and safety over DIY clamps, though, Salomon's Z12 Ski Binding is worth a try. It has a DIN that runs from four all the way up to 12, making it perfect for intermediates or middleweight experts, along with automatic wing and toe adjustment that reduce the futzing around required before you're ready to ride. The Vertical Progressive Pivot ensures consistent release in backwards falls, and the SCP pedal slider anti-friction device makes sure you won't be locked in during the sideways twisting falls that can take a toll on your knees.

Great binding at a great price!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I highly recommend this binding. I bought these bindings for some skis my son and I made at the RAMP ski company in Park City ( which is another great story).

I chose Salomon bindings because I have always skied on Salomon bindings and never had a serious accident or knee injury related to my ski binding. They always seem to release only when they really should if I have them set up right by a qualified ski tech. That is why I chose this binding for my son's skis as well. I feel like I'm getting a dependable binding that performs as well as some more expensive high end bindings for a great price.

I did 3 stars because I only took them a couple of times at the end of the season since it was such a lean season and I didn't want to trash my new skis. I'm hoping this season we'll see major deep pow pow and I can really put them to the test.
