Fast and light (and bright)...
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
Used these as my mid-mountain marathon racing shoe in 2011 and Jupiter Steeplechase in 2011 and 2012. They're light, have a good heel to toe drop for me (6mm) keeping me on my toes, but don't give up any stiffness in the sole for rocky runs. I wear a size 9 and have a wider fit and they fit me true to size. My fit also expands quite a bit on long runs (10 mile+) and I had no issues. I wear them with a thin running sock.
Solid Ultra-distance shoe
- Gender: Male
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
While the heel is a bit clunky, over-all this is a great shoe for ultra races. tons of features for the weight.
Salomon S-Lab 4 XT Wings Trail Running Shoe Test and Review
Our reporter Sven tested this shoe over hundreds of miles of trail and road in training for an upcoming ultra run. He noticed that shoes didn't fare as well on the road, but perform as promised where it matters - on the trails. This is a competiton-level trail running shoe.
How does this shoe handle in snow and wet...
How does this shoe handle in snow and wet conditions?
Hi Drew, I think the Speedcross CS will be a better shoe for snow/wet conditions, but if you prefer the XT Wings over the Speedcross (which i do), then go with the soft ground version of this ( http://www.backcountry.com/salomon-s-lab-4-xt-wings-soft-ground-shoe-mens ). It has deeper lugs.
but will they get wet? obviously the CS will hold up better agains moisture but if the XT wings do ok thats fine with me
I was a little nervous about the color at first but regardless these shoes are amazing!! I use them for running mainly (Trails and indoor track)but will slip them on occasion for casual wear. Salomon makes top of the line shoes and are worth the money!!
really comfortable shoes
I'm using them daily for casual walks to work and for short running once a week. After half of year I've noticed that sole has worn off. Not that dramatically, but I guess I'll finish them in next several months.
Anyway, they are so comfortable that most probably I'll just end up buying another pair of these.
Salomons run WIDE!!! Bad Salomon Customer Service
I wanted to use this a winter road running shoe due to cold and pounding on legs but even with its almost ballet slipper upper, it was way too wide. Too bad, because it is CUSHY just the thing to tame the effects of cold on the knees! What a wonderful shoe BUT FYI, I tried calling Salomon, no easy task in that they have unlisted HQ number to try to get a custom shoe made - left detailed message with the Product Manager and NEVER got a call back! Would think that as they are wanting to crash the road run market they would at least have interest in hearing from a sizable segment of market with narrow feet but nothing - does not portend well for customer service if you ever need it!! How much does one have to spend and be willing to spend before somebody gives a damn?!
