The best shoes I've owned (I have two - score blue color and light onyx). I tourney fish and cannot emphasize how great these feel and look. I'm even sponsored by another shoe brand, but can't give these up. They nailed it on this one. My moves are cleaner and my posture naturally sets right in these shoes. Can't say enough. Salomon nailed it.
narrow shoe

This shoe is more narrow than the other salomon trail running shoe. There is less room in the toe box and the arches are relatively high. These didn't work for me. The quality of the shoe is good though.
not for me

For me these shoes are not comfortable. I have high arches, this shoe is built with a high arch for me feels too high. To me the shoe is very rigid and has little cushioning. Asics printed neutral on the shoe but for me is is not a neutral shoe. The shoe did fit to true size for me. Still looking.

I'm wary about purchasing shoes before I have a chance to try them on, but I ordered my true size (where I usually go up a half size for running shoes), and love the feel of these. They're much lighter weight than my previous Montrail trail runners, and perhaps less supportive, but very breathable (and therefore colder in the winter). The tread is great for off-road and the shoe is very cushioned. I haven't used these types of laces before, but haven't had any issues so far. They've been comfortable from the day I put them on. A few reviews I read mentioned the area around the top of the ankle rubbing them, and although there is more cushion in this area, it doesn't bother me.
Love Salomon, NOT THESE!!

These are the third part of Salomon I have and sadly these are nothing like the other two. I love Salomons so much I have bought them as gifts for family. My favorite pair, the SpeedComp, were discontinued... with my two other pairs, stright from the box I did 3-5 miles and loved them. Not problem, no sores, never had to break them in and ran true to size. These, the XR Mission, are not the same... from the box after a 1/2 mile my feet hurt.. I've been wearing these every other day and still haven't broken them in. Also, compared to all my other running shoes, these shoes are heavy... no matter how light you try to walk you sound like your wearing boots. The only reason I am keeping these is because I am hoping they will break in and be awesome like my other Salomons. I purchased the grey/pewter and was thinking of buying the purple/blue/green... that was before I wore them... will not be buying these in any other color. My advice, go with a different Salomon shoe. Oh and sizing.. with Salomon I wear 8.5, same as any other shoe. These however, run small.. a 9 would be more comfy.

I bought these shoes for an up coming marathon I'm doing. I ordered pink because I already have shoes in black, grey, purple, blue...I got them in this morning and they are not pink. They are purple.. The exact shade of my reebok nano 2.0 I use for Crossfit. I haven't run in them yet but they are comfortable. I know color isn't a big deal to most people but I'm frustrated to say the least. I have sore feet from wearing minimus shoes and I can't afford to wait two weeks to send these back and get another color. Just a heads up..

I like those shoes because they conform to my feet very well. They have enough cushioning for pavement. I use them for training on both trails and pavement.
Best shoes EVER!

Are the Salomon / XR Mission trail running shoe made for the cushion/neutral high arch supinator foot?

Far from an expert here, and maybe they're not supposed to, but that sounds exactly like my feet and these work well for me. Good luck!
Blister?

Trying out these new, lighter shoes from Salomon based on review and gear comparisons I have read. Used to run in solely New Balance, but wanted to try something different. Nut a huge fan of the boa closure, I feel I got better securing from laces, but have gotten used to it. Experienced blisters once, after a 6 mile run in humidity, may have been partially moisture, but nothing since. Getting used to them with more runs, and getting to like them more each day :)
Brilliant running shoe!!

I had ordered the XT Wings 2 and thank goodness they were too big because I ended up ordering the XR Mission instead and I am delighted with them! I do a combination of trail/road running and these are perfect for the change in surface. They fit like a glove (Salomon run large, I ordered a full size smaller than I wear in Brooks/Asics, so check the size guide before ordering). I have very high arches and a wide foot and these shoes feel like they were made for my feet. I love the quick lace system. The tongue piece that holds the laces is a little short but I much prefer this than the larger tongue pieces that you find on the Wings 2. Even though it's a little hard at first to get the lace tie into the tongue it sits low and is very comfortable and does not take anything away from the rating of this shoe. And the bonus was the color, I got the pewter/papaya and just love them!! No more white running shoes for me!

Do these shoes run true to size? I could either go for a Women's 9.5 or 10.

I found Salomon's tend to run a bit big. For any other brand of trail shoes, I size up by 1/2 a size. For Salomons and Salomons only, I wear my usual street shoe size and don't size up.

Btw, some websites have 3-D shoe scans - like runningwarehouse.com. Pick the shoe you want, plug in your reference shoe name & size, and it'll show you how different sizes will fit compare to your reference.

Took these out on a maiden 7-mile run last week and then another 7.5 today, no issues with blisters. The outsoles extend quite a bit out, which provides stability. They do feel a tad lighter than my other Salomons. The treads on these are obviously not as aggressive as my Speedcross 3's - on steepest part of the trail I started sliding downhill. Not sure why these are billed as low to medium distance shoe - durability-wise, they do have dual-density EVA. So compared to the single-density foam on the Speedcross's, these feel a bit stiffer.

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the width of these compared to the Speedcross 3's? I need a pair for a Tough mudder & a friend has the speedcross but they seemed to be a narrow shoe. These look wider....
catiecoo
Member since
Perhaps the XR Mission gives the illusion of being a lot wider b/c the outsoles really extend outwards whereas Speedcross don't. But I just put both pairs on, and it does feel XR Missions fit just a tad wider. Also the fabric on the sides of the forefoot (yellow colored on the purple shoe) are stretchy, so they help accommodate somewhat wider foot. You might also consider thinner socks though, as the aggressive lugs on the Speedcross will help you grip much better in mud.

I LOVE these shoes, BUT: I need a 10 1/5 women's - any ideas? I want deep purple!
