best winter running shoes

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm not a fan of running, but when I do run, I always have a pair of salomon's on. The Gore-Tex keeps moisture, mud, and frigid air out and keeps the warmth in! Great for snowy trail runs and watching muddy cyclocross races!

Huge and bulky

This style shoe is not like my last pairs of Salomons. I've always liked Salomons for the snug fitting heel and roomy toe, but these have a huge heel area so my foot moves all over the place, and if I try to compensate and tie the laces really tight, then I'm sure my foot would go numb. The collar of the shoe at the anke is way too high and rubs on my ankles. The tongue is puffy and way too big. There's more, but I'll just end saying these are poorly designed and poorly made.

Responded on

I agree. Loved my last pair of Salomons, but these new ones are completely different and don't fit my feet anymore. :(

I agree ...these are nothing like my last 3-4 pairs of GTX Trail Runners by Salomon ...I have to pull the SensiFit Speed Lace system soooooooooo tight that it is now physically cutting into the tongue membrane fabric ...I'm looking @ going back to TNF or possibly trying Dynafit MS Feline Gore-Tex ...

Responded on

I also agree. I used to love the Pro 3Ds, but for the last few years I have not been happy with the last two pairs. I thought maybe the last pair was a fluke so I purchased this particular pair and feel the same. The high collar gave me a horrible blister after hiking only a couple of miles, and they just don't feel very cush and shock-absorbant on my feet when I'm trail running - they feel clunky and hard. They are also much longer and more narrow than older models. That being said, They are well made and extremely waterproof so I've been wearing them all winter, but unfortunately they're just not right for my feet anymore. Unfortunately, after this pair I'm done with Salomons.

The BEST shoes

I love these shoes!! They are the best bar none that I've ever had. I have $400 orthotics in both shoes because I over-pronate but I don't even use them in my new shoes and my feet feel comfortable and stable all day. I'm not a trail runner or an uber athlete at all. I'm almost 60 and I walk 7km. every day and I stand a lot doing cooking and house stuff and I'm a canoe builder and I stand for that. Thanks, Salomon, for great shoes! I also have Salomon winter boots and cross-country ski boots and love them so I felt confident ordering that brand on-line. They are generous in their sizing so order your normal size. There is good room for your toes. And the service from Back Country is GREAT!

finally!

I can not believe I waited this long (years and years) to buy a pair of waterproof trail shoes. What a difference it is to have dry warm feet.
They are a bit stiffer and heavier than I am use to but we'll worth the trade for dry feet.
I had to order my true shoe size rather than a half size bigger like many running shoes.
I have convinced my husband and running partners to order a pair as well. They are worth the money.

I love these shoes

They are comfy and my feet stay dry - even on muddy trails where I am out for multiple hours. I am not sure how they would be in warmer weather, but for winter in the NW, these are great!
