An Ultra performance.
Salomon packed the Men's X Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Boot with performance-driven features for rugged trails and extended backpacking trips. Gore-Tex's Performance Comfort membrane guarantees waterproof breathable protection for year-round climates, and the SensiFit upper cradles your foot for a stable, precise, and snug fit. Ortholite and two layers of EVA give plenty of cush for day-long adventuring.
Underfoot, the X Ultra Mid 2 GTX features Salomon's Advanced Chassis midsole for stability, foot control, and protection. The protective rubber toe cap protects your foot from rocks, while the mud guard keeps the boot clean after wet-weather excursions. Non-marking ContaGrip rubber helps the sole stick to any surface that the outdoor hosts.

Nice Salomons
- Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
- Fit:Runs large
- Size Bought: 11
Just bought these boots. I've had quite a few different pairs of Salomons. I currently have the Comet 3D GTX and a pair of the trail runners both size 11. So I ordered these in 11 and they're huge, so I need to exchange them for a 10 or 10.5.
Dry Feet Are Happy Feet
I was so jealous of my dad hiking through the snow in the Swiss National Park. While my sister and I had soaking feet, his stayed toasty dry because he had these boots on. 15 miles in the snow didn't phase him one bit.
The New Pair that Feels Like Your Old
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
- Fit:True to size
What can I say about the Solomon X Ultra that hasn’t been said already?
- This shoe is hiking ready, fresh out of the box. There is almost no need for a break in before you head out.
- The Gore-Tex is great to keep you dry and the tongue is fully connected to the boot so water really cannot find its way in. Now, the Gore-Tex will make your feet warm, but it’s not as bad as it sounds; I’ve noticed that if I’m concentrating on the hike and my surroundings it not a bother.
- The mid-high ankle supports are strong and work well, my most recent trip was largely on loose rock beds and the support really kept me from straining an ankle.
- The show is pretty lightweight too, feels a lot like a cross trainer over a boot.
- The full wrap toe-kick keeps you from smashing anything, and thereby ruining your trip
All in all, yes, the boot gets a little warm during a hike, but I’ve never found it to be something so overly uncomfortable that I disliked the boot. It will keep you dry, and, I think, most importantly it is very, very comfortable.
Leaking water after a few months of use.
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:True to size
- Size Bought: 8.5
This is my third pair of Solomon X Ultra Mid 2 GTX hiking boots, and they all share the same problem - leaking water after a few months of use.
To be fair, these shoes are extremely lightweight and comfortable, requires no break-in period, which are the main reason I still keep purchasing them. However, they are not designed and built to last in long trek and harsh environment. My last pair started leaking water, after two long trek in Nepal (Everest Base Camp trek and Annapurna Circuit trek). I bought this pair for K2 Base Camp trek in Pakistan, and right shoe started leaking water on the second down pour.
In summery, these are great shoes if you only do gentle, short hike, and in light to medium raining conditions. For multi-day trek and heavy rain, do yourself a favor and look for other hiking boots.
Very confortable
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
- Fit:True to size
- Size Bought: 9
I bought these boots for a trip to the corner of Costa Rica (Punta Burica), It was a 8 hours (4 hours, rest, 4 hours) walk each way. I survived with out any ampoule nor other issues. I really love them and are really usefull in rainy season.
New but I like
- Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit:Runs large
- Size Bought: 12
I just purchased these so these are just my initial thoughts. I usually wear a 12.5 but I only saw a 12 and 13 on the site so I went with the 12. It turns out they run a little big and fit perfectly. The material fees great, I like the 1 piece tongue, and the Ortholite footbed feels great.
Excellent boot for shoulder season
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:True to size
- Size Bought: 9
I love these boots. They do get way too hot in the summer (as most gore-tex boots do) for long hikes. I switch over to trail runners in the summer anyway so this was exactly what I wanted for spring and fall. Fairly light for a boot and it keeps my feet dry in mud/snow.
Ok for short hikes
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:True to size

If you hike more than 2 hours your feet will hurt/burn. Comfortable at first then no so comfortable.
What is the temperature rating on these? I know they aren't the winter X ultra, but I was wondering how cold these are rated for, considering they are Gore-Tex. If possible, I would love to have a boot that I can hike with in the summer and then use to snow shoe in the winter.
