Description

No matter how long or demanding the hike, keep dry doing it.

In order to enjoy a well-rounded exploration of nature, you've got to endure some rainy, soggy trails. The Salomon X Ultra GTX Hiking Shoe helps you do just that, while providing a stable, flexible platform for quick hiking in any terrain. A waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane keeps out the moisture during dewy mornings and sudden showers, so you can comfortably plant this lightweight, grippy trail shoe anywhere you please.
  • EVA in the midsole and sockliner reduces the constant impact of rocky steps
  • Mud, slick rock, and fresh snow are no problem thanks to the non-marking ContaGrip rubber outsole sticking you to the terrain
  • Gusseted tongue, protective toe cap, and mud guard help you master the trail, even if it's not in perfect condition
  • Sensifit outer design uses a one-pull Quicklace system to ensure the shoe wraps tightly around your foot and doesn't move throughout your many miles on the trail
  • Ortholite footbed cradles your foot with shaped foam and an foam heel cup for additional impact absorption

For an impending thru-hike of the PCT, I am debating between three different pairs of hiking shoes that will need to be appropriate for sections of the trail which will inevitably range from scalding to frigid, if all my research done up to now serves me well. That being said, I have narrowed down my choices to either these, the Salewa Alp Trainer GTX Hiking Shoe, or the Teva Riva eVent Hiking Shoe.
Anyone recommend one over the others, and if so, why? Any input, suggestions, or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I have the X Ultra GTX. Not familiar with the other two, but I will share my thoughts on these. I have had mine for 8 months, and I wear them way to much. They will keep you warm, the Gor-tex does not breathe well, my feet sweat all the time in these even with very thin running socks. The soles are fairly soft and the insoles pack out quickly. I live in a very snowy and wet area and they always keep me dry, although I would recommend gaiters if doing the PCT. Hope this helped some!

I'm planning to buy this shoes just for the daily basis (I ride my bike everyday), as the winter is coming and we have lots of rain where I live during that time.

Is this okay for that? I'm more interested in the waterproof quality. I'm tired of having wet socks. If it keeps my feet warm from the cold weather would be just nice!

That's basically why I got them, I was living in WA and rain is a daily thing.

Hi,
I wear a 10 in converse jack purcell. a 10 in adidas porsche design, and a 10.5 in most nike running shoes. My foot measures exactly 28cm if done while standing up with a ruler. And I fit comfortably into a 11 US in all Salomon shoes. The 10 and 10.5 fit me, but I feel as if my toe would hurt after walking a while as it's just about at the tip. I also have somewhat narrow feet, and the 11 still manages to grip my foot. So I hope this helps you!

Took these bad boys straight out of the box and put in 15 miles of the PCT this weekend! Awesome shoe! Fits true like other Salomon shoes (I have skinny feet). I have had the Wings XT2 GTX before and loved them because of the true running platform and pronation control. These shoes are definitely more "hike" orientated, but none the less performed to my "fast and light" needs. The heel of the shoe is softer than the fore-foot, which suits me well. I crossed a lot of snow and mud and streams and this shoe never lost traction. The toe box has a great reinforced cover, great for kicking rocks you see. The long term testing will tell the truth though, I'll try to update if any issues arise IE. start leaking etc. For now though, they dropped the price, so go on and get you a pair!

At first I knew the fit was good, but I found the footbed to be a bit hard for my sensitive feet, I have extremely high arches so I added a firm arch support & substituded the insole with a cushion type foam insole. After getting them broke in and wearing them alot I find them to be really great, I use thorlos Silk Merino socks and the combination has kept my feet really happy. Speed Laces on these Solomon shoes is cool, I love never having to tie them, I just slip them on & off & never change how I have the laces set =)

Salomon fits very narrow. Not the shoe for you. Look at Saucony and Mizuno

Got these for my husband, he loves them. Really great at protecting from the rain and elements. Great cushioning and fit. He usually wears 11.5 and that's what fits perfect in these. Great durable shoes.
